What don’t we need….especially with Yadi getting a little long in the tooth. But with all of the quality starters, both here and in the farm system, you have a real nice foundation to build from. The only positions I feel decent about moving forward, is Bader in center and DeJong at short. I guess maybe Ozuna and his recent hot streak needs to be considered for the future as well. As the trading deadline approaches, I think I would be a duo-dealer….both a buyer and a seller. Young players of Machado’s talents do not become available very often. If you have the trading chips and you can sign him long term, you have to make a run at him. If the cubbies get him for Russell and some farmhands, we can forget about competing with those guys for at least the next 5 years. This Cardinal team presently has no…none….zilch…position players who even remotely resemble a franchise player….and that’s a big problem. So you pay the huge price to reel in Machado and you try to bring a few marginal young players into the system by trading the likes of Gyorko, Pham, Wong and maybe even Carpenter. Who knows, maybe you’ll get lucky and end up finding a diamond in the rough.
Oh oh!! Looks like just like that, Fowler surplants Wong again as Enemy #1, as he ignorantly tries to take liberties on the base paths and is out from me to you at 3rd base on a base knock….what in blazes was he thinking!
Dexter! Walks to leadoff the Cardinal 6th in a 3-3 ballgame. This may very well be Dexter’s best game of 2018. What is he….1-1 with a couple walks. I think for me, Wong has replaced Fowler ad Enemy #1.
Has Gyorko’s stock ever fallen over this past month. We should have dealt him last month…… but who would have ever guessed that his bat would have grown so totally limp. Gomber gives we Cardinal fans some much needed relaxment with a 1-2-3 inning.
Looks like Ozuna is locked, cocked and ready to rock at the dish. Looks very confident. I get the feeling that little hard round baseball looks like a beachball to Marcell’s eyes right now….just as I say this he Whiffs hacking away.
Boy! It almost looked like Pham beat that throw to 1st on that routine grounder to short.
Carlos escapes. Game still tied….whew!
I’m afraid you may have called it, Euro. Game now tied with Chicago looking good to add on a couple more.
I’m sick of everyone pitching around Bryant! Make him hit IT! You’d think the guy was hitting .330 with 20 dingers. Now if he was in our lineup, then you’d pitch around him. But in Chicago’s, with other decent hitters, you’re just asking for issues by continually giving him free passes.
Like they say….great minds think alike, Euro…..with our corresponding Wong remarks. I’m sure us two were not the only Cardinal fans echoing those sentiments after that at bat.
Carlitos plates a run with a single just in front of the surging Heyward in right and the Redbirds recapture the lead!
Wong whiffs!!!! Swinging for the dam downs!!! And there the lead run still sits…as lonely as TheLonleyBull out at 3rd base, with the pitcher coming up with 2 outs. I’m sorry but Wong has to go.
Munoz with a wounded duck base hit to shallow right will put runners on the corners here in the Cardinal 4th! That baby will present itself as a scorching rocket in tomorrow’s newspaper box scores though.
This darn tv of mine is screwing up again……it actually showed Fowler reaching base with a hit….can’t be.
Never know, maybe Albert will miss that series in St. Louis for the same reason our 1st baseman missed this all important series.
Tailor made 4-6-3 twin killing is exactly what the doctor ordered to hopefully reverse the negative direction that Carlos was heading in, in this game.
Boy have the Dodgers righted the ship in LA! Now Carlos walks Hendricks and hence is now begging for trouble.
Now Russell, first pitch swinging, ties things up with a solo blow to center.
Very frustrating! Carlos whiffed Contreras twice in that run scoring at bat……but there the cub catcher stood with bat in hand. It’s almost like that home plate ump was going to give Contreras 9 lives….or until his at bat resulted in something positive for Chicago.
I hear you, stlcard25…..and we were all ready to run Ozuna out of town just a few weeks ago.
Carlos nearly goes yard, but it’ll go in the books as an 0-fer. Hey, anyone remember Elrod Hendricks of Baltimore back in the day? Wonder if this cubbies hurler is related in any fashion?
Have to make Hendricks work harder than this in inning #2
Ditto for NJ315
Euro…GACard….TexasCard & Carioca are in the house. I couldn’t think of 4 finer gentlemen to game thread with.
I’m beginning to think that Holland’s speed may be with Peoria….but then they too are vying for a playoff slot.
