Don’t have stats to back it up but Hicks seems to be more efficient than most pitchers. Could it be the team is focused more on total pitches than innings?

Let’s simplify this. We currently only have two relievers that inspire any kind of confidence, Hicks and Norris. They should NEVER come into a game in which we are losing. You waste them in a game you lose then you can’t use them the next day or maybe two days if you double down and use them for two innings in a loss. That is inexcusable. Those two guys are our ONLY hope of closing out games that we are WINNING. I don’t get it.

Did Garcia come in as a defensive replacement after the 7th?

The reason I’m asking is because it brought up an issue in the 9th with Pena having to PH in Gyorko spot in the 9th. Which we fell 1 batter short of reaching.

He pitched all of 19 pitches. He had two days of rest. Who would you have gone with? Gomber, Tuivailala, and Brebbia had all been used heavily over the last 4 days. You have to save Norris as the closer and you have to save Ponce to piggy-back off Weaver in today’s game. So your choice is either Hicks or Cecil.

Pads it wasn’t 19 pitches on two days rest. He was on his fourth game in 6 days throwing 2 innings when behind and 31 of 65 games already. Add all of those pitches up plus warm up in the pen and before innings and he had to of thrown at least 150-200 pitches in 6 days. That’s like starting on three days rest. I’m telling you at some point soon the kid will break down if this continues. He is being way overused.

Oh I didn’t realize we count imaginary warm-up throws, bullpens, etc. that starters or other relievers don’t throw either.

Who would you have gone to then? Norris or Cecil?

Nothing imaginary about throwing a baseball. Every single time you do it, it counts. Doesn’t matter to me what pitcher they use. I guess we can revisit this soon when he is visiting the doctor to schedule his TJ surgery. It won’t be much longer at the current pace. Thats going to be a sad day.

I just think it’s funny that those pitches matter when it’s Jordan Hicks but not when it’s anyone else.

The dude throws 105 so yeah he probably will have arm injuries at some point.

Does your specific limits guide us on who has TJ surgery? Did Matheny overuse Reyes?

Hicks has not been overused at all this season imo. He’s been efficiently deployed and they have had a ton of days off as well. Look at his usage numbers compared to other relievers in baseball.

And finally, who else should Matheny have went to? Our options, as I said, were Hicks and Cecil.

We know Matheny is rarely wrong. He as usual made the right decision.

14 the pitch count came into affect when salaries went through the roof. Also I notice that you used Gibson as proof guys should keep throwing. Gibson’s arm was shot by the time he retire.

I like what Brebbia has done.

Oh geesh! Been ties up all night and just saw our score. How can a team that losses home series’ to the Royals, Marlins and Pads over a 30 day stretch, expect to be a serious playoff contender??? At this point, the only way I could be a believer again is if we prance into Wrigley this weekend and somehow spank the daylights out of then.

He can put Gyroko in there for all I care. Since we only have two reliable bullpen pieces I’m not going to waste one while we are trailing. Makes no sense.

BTW, Ponce came up and went down and never got on the mound.
