Is there a world where Zach Thompson, Packy Naughton, and Victor Santos have been spending more time and energy with the new staff than anyone else? Could these three be the first test cases?
What if each returned with even modest increases in velocity, pitch shape, and command over our last visuals of these three?
Santos was 6-7 at Memphis as a failing starter, but he logged half a season at AAA. There was a version of Thompson we would all love to see again. What if an improved version of the flame-throwing Thompson re-emerged?
You don’t have to squint too hard to see Packy Naughton as a true asset with the simply logical results associated with the organizational improvements we’ve seen applied to the rehabilitation of pitchers. This surely has been an area of focus considering their pursuit of May and Canning.Why would anyone assume a person is ever fully recovered from a torn achilles tendon? Griffin Canning seems like an unnecessary risk unless you truly believe.
I love the Springfield Cashew Chickens. The uniforms are among the coolest. Further, cashew chicken is an absolute good. It is the single best food ever and it originated as an incredibly effective weapon to fight racism during the civil rights movement. It singlehandedly convinced hillbillies to accept and appreciate foriegn cultures and set the stage for Springfield to welcome and create homes for thousands of southeast asian refugees in the late 1970’s.
There was an old poster named Easton a decade ago or so who used to argue there is no reason to have a pitcher like Mathews use innings at AAA or AA if that pitcher can get big leaguers out.
His arguement was that each player must go through struggles at each level, and you only have a finite number of years and innings to get there.
For this reason a pitcher like Mathews should be in the MLB rotation making adjustments asap because they have to occur before he can ascend to the next level of competence.
I support the old school method as we did with Liberatore first out of the pen then into the rotation, but it is hard to argue with McGreevey ‘s developmental plan, too.
I would place Hence, Hjerpe, and Roby all in the pen for the entirety of 2026 and advance each to the highest level they can get batters out at with the sole intention of getting value now.Am I alone in admiring what Arenado has to offer still? He is still elite defensively. He was top 5 in baseball hitting fastballs 99mph and above. He has always been a great breaking ball hitter.
Had he taken the Houston trade, he would have dramatically improved his counting stats. Playing in St. Louis has seen so many balls to the warning track.
Someone has to go, and he makes the most sense, but there are places he could still provide great value.
Arizona, Boston, Texas, Houston could all see a resurgence. Detroit, LA teams, Seattle should all steer clear.
Get him in the right park and he is still a 3 or even 4 war player and a bargain at his current price.If the team were to trade Donovan for any of the top three Seattle starters, this rotation becomes very interesting.
May’s signing seems a little Chris Carpentery. There isn’t the year of rehab involved and Carpenter had more prior MLB success, but the idea of a big 6’6″ starter with wicked stuff rings true. May can’t possess Carpenter’s demeanor, but think about all the teasing May must have faced as the gangly red head. Maybe he can tap into some latent hostility…still can’t touch Carp though.What I find interesting is that both Cerfolio and Bloom both recently addressed their expectations for the player to use the offseason as though they were still employees. I don’t think players are paid in the offseason.
Victor Scott in particular is interesting in this regard. Victor was quite public of his love of music and dedication of his time in the offseason to his art. I think the new leadership will provide direction, opportunity, and an expectation that each player use each hour to reach his personal goals that are monitored by the team. Work without accountability isn’t effective. I don’t regard the team as too demanding; I just hear a voice that is going to bring a higher degree of teamwork and support.
I truly hope we never see that overweight plodding version of Gorman again. Think about an improved version of the best we’ve seen of Walker and Gorman next year. This team is magically different under that supposition.We already drafted his dad. It’s our big chance to get value out of our past drafts by getting Dan’s kid.

We should all aire more grievances so Bloom feels the pressure going into the meetings. He’ll perform better if he understands the magnitude of the conspiracies and forces at play.Anyone think Noot for Teoscar Hernandez works? If LA picks up Hernandez’s deferred money, salaries are a wash.
Noot goes home and reunites with all his buddies plus Tommy. LA solves the Hernandez in right problem.
We get a foundational bat who Jay can work with in left.Building a foundation happens four different ways and Bloom will address each. The uncommitted money will be spent on players who Bloom and other decision makers see as foundational.
If a free agent market moves into their comfort zone, money will be spent. If a trade partner offers a foundational piece, capital will be spent.
If those opportunities don’t arise, they will continue to focus on player development and collecting value from marginal investments.
We shouldn’t even concern ourselves with payroll because the variables are unknown both to Bloom and ourselves.Does this pick affect what is considered to be our third pick? Does this make our 2nd rounder our comp penalty again?
I would argue winning through the draft doesn’t take long. We are already doing it. Our good fortune in recent drafts could become a bonanza Dec. 9.
Next season we could see the emegence of Tink Hence, Quinn Mathews, Jimmy Crooks, and Cooper Hjerpe as young studs.
I consider JJ to be the best hitter we have on the roster. Walker and Gorman are the keys and Donovan is considered our best player. The draft is easily the core and the near future. We don’t have to wait at all to reap the enormous benefits of recent drafts. Winn, Burly, McGreevey…If you simply want a right-handed hitting outfielder who plays center poorly, Dylan Carlson is priced perfectly.
You listen to Ranger people describing the frustration of watching Garcia fail makes me wonder why we want any of that. Look for the 28 year old who battled some isolated yet serious injury aka Ryan Ludwick. Pass on everyone coming down the mountain.
