February 6, 2026 at 3:02 pm #300415Hays or Andujar would have been a good fit but those ships have sailed. At this point I wouldn’t mind if they stayed in house for the RH bat.
February 6, 2026 at 3:07 pm #300416And with the estimated 40mm haircut they took going from FanDuel to MLB the DeWitts may prefer not spending on a bench player.

I think Jasson Dominguez of the Yankees would be a worthy target but I don’t think the Cardinals have anything left the Yankees would want at this point.
I know it was probably a joke when Siani was listed as someone to go after but I actually liked Siani. His OF defense was as elite as any I have seen in a long time. We may not score any runs but good luck getting a hit in the gaps with an OF of Noot, Scott, and Siani. Run prevention is a thing.
Someone mentioned the idea of buying prospects. I don’t know who the top prospects are in the Phillies organization but I bet we could pick who we wanted if we took Nick Castellanos off of their hands. Of course at this point it is generous to call him an OF. He is really a way overpriced DH but if it got us a top prospect then that would be good.

jj-cf-stlParticipantAh yes, the Castianos Hulk flex at home plate.
No chance 😉February 6, 2026 at 7:08 pm #300426
stlcard25ParticipantThe Phillies have two untouchable prospects in Miller and Painter but perhaps Gage Wood could come along with Castellanos for Romero on his way back to his old stomping grounds.
February 6, 2026 at 8:05 pm #300427The $40 million haircut on regional TV is actually $20 million and may be less than that.

Sorry, but I have no idea. Is anyone else losing comments?
February 7, 2026 at 7:40 am #300440OK, this updated estimate is an 18-20mm loss. That plus a lower gate and BPV cut might keep the DeWitts in house. It’s a stark new game when the only non-arb or pre-arb ’27 commitment is a 500k buyout for May. Not complaining as I believe it’s two years overdue.
February 7, 2026 at 8:14 am #300441Hi Brian, I don’t know of lost comments but the engine seems sluggish. On my browser the front page often doesn’t reflect the latest post on a thread. Even inside a thread I often have to refresh to see the latest comment. Maybe it’s just my browser but I thought I’d toss it out there in case others see the same. Thanks for the site as always, good stuff.

That would be a dream come true. Gage Wood is one of my favorite college pitchers ever. He is pretty popular in this part of the country.
February 7, 2026 at 4:12 pm #300460Not Herrera. The other day, Bloom mentioned Saggese and Fermin as possibilities.
Maybe the Italians will give Tommy some reps in the OF in the WBC. Lol
February 7, 2026 at 4:31 pm #300465Tommy Pham 3.0 or Randal Grichuk 2.0?
Probably pass on both.
February 7, 2026 at 4:53 pm #300466NyQuist getting his posts deleted? Careful NyQuist, 2 week suspensions are next on the docket…….but I wouldn’t really know any longer as it’s been over 15 years now since my last suspension. I had 3 levied against me compliments of our last owner, Ray. Luckily, Brian’s trigger finger isn’t as anxious as Ray’s was.
February 7, 2026 at 6:34 pm #300468Maybe a trade with Romero involved brings in a RH outfielder
February 7, 2026 at 7:26 pm #300469If that darned BW hadn’t cast a shadow of doubt on our future right handed hitting star, Joshua Baez, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
February 7, 2026 at 10:55 pm #300478A lot is said about the negative effects on Walker of rushing him to MLB from AA. Not much is said about Scott. 2023 hit .320 in AA. Started off 2024 in MLB and hasn’t been able to hit anywhere ever since, much like Walker. Lets just hope the Cardinals brass has learned its lesson and won’t do anything stupid with Baez.
February 9, 2026 at 7:55 am #300502I am with Bling on the Baez “not screwing him/it up” like they did with the half time show last night! That was 4 hours of wasted time!
February 9, 2026 at 2:24 pm #300525I have lost almost every poignant comment I have ever posted. Only my mindless drivel seems to sneak past Brian’s gatekeeper.
February 9, 2026 at 4:26 pm #300527Final touches for 2026 to maybe get to 81.1 wins….
– Overpay for one of Giolito, Quintana or Buehler
– WAY Overpay for Coulombe
– Overpay for a 2nd LHRP
– Sign Marte with a “must trade clause”
– Walker in Memphis till deadline
– Jojo, Obrien and Noot to LA for River Ryan and Teoscar
– Crooks to highest bidderPayroll still well under 2025.
February 9, 2026 at 4:40 pm #300529Aha! The Nigel T filter has been discovered. I must have misspelled Pugsley!
February 10, 2026 at 8:51 am #300551Andrew McCutchen might be a good addition for a RH outfielder
February 10, 2026 at 11:42 am #300553Step one:Way overpay for Coulombe; give the hometown guy $4.2 instead of $4 million. He is one of the best in baseball at never sucking.
Since we are handing out $4.5 million contracts willy nilly now, we will toss one more to Griffin Canning and call it a winter.
I really am impressed with Bloom’s refusal to add fading talent. Add ascending talent only. Oh…and in the Jesse Orosco world where non-sucking lefties reside, Danny Coulombe is a mere babe…just now being recognized.
February 10, 2026 at 11:46 am #300554I believe Fermin, Saggesse, and Torres are all more valuable in the outfield than any veteran available.
Instead of being bitter about Mo, remember dry powder is twice as powerful when the season is half over.February 10, 2026 at 2:09 pm #300559…or McCutchen…I guess
