If they add 3 starters this off season. I would be ready for them being 3 # 4-5 types on short term deals.
I am hoping they will be smart enough to sign three #2 starters early in the offseason while everyone else is pursuing Ohtani.
That is true, CIF. But when was the last time an entire organization scapegoated one player for their failures?
Maybe DeWitt will learn a lesson from the Mets owner.
McG has been the most consistent starter at Memphis all season.
Both Liberatore and Graceffo have better ERA, WHIP and BAA.
I mean, you can look at the pitchers offered at the deadline to see who is available:
1. Lucas Gioloto
2. Jordan Montgomery
3. Marcus Stroman
4. Michael LorenzenIf the Cardinals prioritized three of those at the start of free agency and forgot about Ohtani, they might have a chance at landing 1-2.
Gioloto is friends with Flaherty. Perhaps they could be a package deal (not $$ wise, but maybe want to play together).
The drama started before this trade deadline as I outlined.
And that was media driven, just like this is.
All of that stuff drives me nuts. That is one of the reasons I like Goldy so much. There is no drama surrounding Goldy. He is all business.
Arenado did not create this drama, the Los Angeles Times did.
The Cardinals don’t leak their trade rumors, the Dodgers do.

July 29, 2023 at 7:35 am in reply to: what would constitute a successful run to the trade deadline? #229641The return they received is minimal for 2024 impact.
STL will not fix the pitching by trading rentals.
Agreed.
I hope the Cardinals haven’t squandered better packages looking for 2024 pitching.
Mikolas suspended 5 games
Nothing like walking in a run in the first inning
July 26, 2023 at 7:31 pm in reply to: what would constitute a successful run to the trade deadline? #229285The thing that confuses me is all the CF reps when Carlson was available. Why?
Just the Cardinals continuing their tradition of putting infielders in the outfield ahead of outfielders (see Matt Adams, Kolten Wong)…
July 26, 2023 at 7:04 pm in reply to: what would constitute a successful run to the trade deadline? #229282Herrera isn’t untouchable Edman is.
Edman has had an OPS under .700 in three out of his five years in the majors.
July 25, 2023 at 4:38 pm in reply to: what would constitute a successful run to the trade deadline? #229160We could get prime controllable pitching from LA for Arenado, and Walker could move to his natural position, with Gorman plan B.
Walker is Juan Yepez-level bad at 3B, just like he is Juan Yepez-level bad in the outfield.
July 24, 2023 at 5:41 am in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2021-2023 #228961Agree. Bobby Miller is not coming to the Cardinals in a trade. He is in the Dodgers rotation.
You have to look for somebody at AA or AAA that hasn’t pitched at the MLB level this year.
July 24, 2023 at 5:39 am in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2021-2023 #228960LOL at suggesting that any time might be willing to give up some significant talent for DeJug.
I don’t think anyone is suggesting he’ll bring back anything “significant.”
Could he bring back a reliever? Possibly.
Could he bring back a low-level prospect? Yes.
And what does that do for the Cardinals? Saves them money and clears a path for Wynn (so they won’t be tempted to play the contract rather than the best player).
Yeah. Let’s hope the Cardinals score 20 runs tomorrow so Adam can get one win closer to 200.
July 23, 2023 at 8:26 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2021-2023 #228942LOL, Cubs fans are mocking how dysfunctional the Cardinals have become.
But there is one nugget here:
“The Cardinals have the greatest array of talent available with outfielders Carlson and O’Neill, infielders Tommy Edman and Paul DeJong, and catcher Willson Contreras on the block too. “
I would expect Edman and Carlson to get the best returns for the Cardinals.
Yes, the difference is the Cardinals will insist on using him in the field.
Other teams are smart enough to make him a DH only.
The more I see of Walker’s defense, the more I am willing to trade him.
Baltimore has declared their top 8 prospects or so to be untouchable
We need DeJong to put together a hot streak before the trade deadline.
Walker is athletic and he’s just a kid. He’ll be transferred into a dandy 1st baseman, LACardFan.
Hasn’t translated to any other defensive positions.
Now that’ll go down in the books as 2 unearned runs, which I think is absolutely ridiculous. The pitcher is the one extending the inning with his error, so his ERA should pay the price.
Agreed. Pitcher errors should count against their ERA.
