If I was betting on this, I would obviously take the Dodgers, but I’m sure I’m not alone in rooting for the Blue Jays.

I’m rooting for the Dodgers. I hate the payroll advantage 3-4 teams have, but the Dodgers have built a fun team to watch. Yankees and Mets have the same monetary advantage and haven’t built it. And I can’t root against Tommy, Kike, Freddy.

I saw something earlier and it may not be exactly the right numbers so don’t hold me to it exactly, I’ll try to find it and confirm again, but 13 of the last 15 world series champions have come from a top 9 payroll. 2017 trash can Astros were one of the outliers. Money has become a huge issue in baseball with those who have, have a lot more than those in the middle, and those at the bottom are closer to the middle than the middle is to the top. Which is why I say the 2027 season will be lucky to happen. Players don’t want to cap their earnings when most aren’t seeing the super high dollars until they are 30 and ownership of 20-24 teams is tired of the other 6-10 having a significant money advantage that the current tax system doesn’t even phase them to pay.

To me, the far bigger issue in the sport is the welfare system set up for teams like the Rays and Marlins that just refuse to spend, because they get $70 million for crying poor. I used the Rays and Marlins because they are in much larger markets than St. Louis.

Distribute the money to all the non-tax paying clubs, and take away money from clubs that don’t invest in growing their fan base.

Until the welfare teams start investing in their clubs and growing their fan bases, I prefer teams like the Dodgers keep winning. The Dodgers increased their payroll this year based on how much extra money they made from winning the World Series, that is how it is supposed to be done.

Anybody know what’s going on with Alex Vesia?

Must be something super serious to leave at this point in time. I was just reading an article about Doug Ault……who whacked the first 2 home runs in Jays history on April 7th, 1977. Sadly, Doug committed suicide by gun in 2004 at the tender age of 54.

It’ll be nice to have some baseball action after what seemed like an extended layoff this week. The only downside is that 7 more games is the most we can hope for before the ’25 season comes to a close. Hopefully this WS will provide some first rate baseball games before the long off season and the winter months set in. Oh well, there’s always the scripted and predetermined games over in the NFL…And who can help but to not get excited about the start of the NBA season…

Yes, here is hoping for an entertaining WS with seven games decided by 1-run.

It turns out that the NBA may be scripted as well. Did you hear about the gambling scandal? Some players and coaches were supposedly doing deals with the mob.

What I’ve read is it was high stakes poker games being rigged. The players were luring heeled clients to underground games. All hosted by connected mob types. I’m sure we haven’t heard the end.

I think it was more than just poker games. I heard a report this morning players were giving out inside information as to who was hurt and who would be playing or not and some players were faking injuries to come out of games so their stats wouldn’t be so good or so their teams would lose.

The NBA scripited…You’re kidding? In any case, Vito’s crew is always at the ready to dip their collective beaks into any and all of the major American team sports. I mean, doesn’t MLB now have a close partnership with the organized gambling syndicates? Don’t kid yourself…There’s plenty of fat envelopes being tossed around these days…

I think most fans view the Dodgers as heavy favorites to emerge victorious in the ’25 WS. However, the Blue Jays are no joke and boast a better regular season W/L record than the Dodgers and will enjoy HFA in this WS. And while the Dodgers are loaded with offensive firepower, the Blue Jays have a couple of big name bats in the form of Vlad Jr, Springer and Bichette that could go on a veritable rampage and make things incredibly unpleasant for the Dodgers and their fans. And then there’s the fact that this contest is the game of baseball and anything can happen. Toronto in 5?

As I said I’m sure we haven’t heard the end. That means there’s a lot more than just poker games.

The mention of Kirk having a major impact in this WS brings back memories of Blue Jay’s catcher Pat Borders who went on a series hitting rampage and was voted the ’92 WS MVP.

I guess we all forgot that the Cardinals were 4-2 against the Dodgers during the regular season.
