Thanks for sharing that article Brian. That was very well written. I was trying to make that argument in far fewer words and less eloquently a couple weeks ago. It’s not just about the advantages the Dodgers have on the field. It’s definitely about their off-field advantages too. I don’t believe a salary cap is the clear answer. I’d rather see far more revenue sharing and a salary floor. I think that’s something both sides could agree on.
I think for the rest of this season anyway, the answer is yes. Matthews replaces May and Dobbins replaces Liberatore if Liberatore doesn’t execute today.

Who will be in our bullpen next season? It’s possible that none of the guys there now will be part of those 8 next season. Gastellum maybe most likely. Graceffo possible. O’Brien if still here.
10 hits but hard to score many without slugging. The one we got came on our 2 doubles. Otherwise 8 harmless singles and a couple walks. We either need to string all those singles together at once or find a way to hit more doubles and homers. Those homers have been few lately.
I love that Quinn is back out there for the 5th. I thought they may pull him early due to 85 pitches thrown through the first 4.
And he finishes off the 5th strong. Not a bad debut. Too many walks but 5 innings, 2 runs isn’t bad. If Winn makes that play in the third or Church holds onto the ball in the fourth (both would have been good plays, really good for the Church play), then Quinn only gives up 1 or maybe zero runs.

He seems a bit jumpy which I guess is understandable in a debut. Especially while debuting for a team that scores 2 runs a game.
Not as good of start to the 3rd walking Schneider and getting behind the next guy before getting a hard hit liner to Walker and a hard hit ball from Guerrero for a hit.
I would be shocked if they did not choose Gurevitch. The only other reasonable choice is Miguel Hernandez and for reasons you mentioned Brian, he won’t be chosen over Gurevitch.
Gurevitch was one of my favorite picks last year. I know I mentioned after the draft considering him our 2nd best prospect selected (just barely behind Doyle at the time). I now have him 3rd behind both Doyle and Franklin in my list, but that is because I’ve also now fallen in love with Franklin. Gurevitch is my number 12 overall as I published a couple weeks ago on this site. If he could play more than 1B/3B, I’d have him around 5 or 6. Cutting down his strikeout totals will be his main objective. That part of his game can still be a bit scary. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him play a bit of corner outfield at some point too as he has enough speed to be fine out there.
I agree Rats. Even just putting the ball in play besides grounding to 2B would be an improvement.
Noot cooled off quickly, Burleson has been swinging even more at everything, Walker has never been able to recognize a pitch thrown, Wetherholt has been typically pulling off pitches, and Herrera had gotten pretty cold until the past week. Plus Church’s luck ran out awhile ago and Crooks hasn’t done much of anything yet.
Winn has been pretty solid. Same with Fermin when he plays. But 1 1/2 bats in a lineup or 2 1/2 if Herrera has figured something out just isn’t cutting it.
Several years ago I expressed how I didn’t want the Cardinals signing Cease because of inconsistency. Boy was I wrong. He’s been one of the better pitchers in baseball since.

I would guess Romero, Stanek, or May is leaving the 40-man to make room in a trade prior to that point. Maybe they have a backup deal already worked out?
I apologize Willie for continuing to poke at you and others. You have consistently maintained that JJ is just “ok”.
Hitting leadoff, walking over 10% of the time, striking out under 16% of the time, getting on base at about a 35% clip, hitting 9% above league average as a young rookie, running a positive WAR in baserunning, playing statistically the 5th best defense in all of baseball, hitting 16 homers as a 2nd baseman, and running the 11th best overall FWAR in baseball all while running a below average batting average on balls in play, suggesting that he’s been unlucky and probably is better than he’s shown.
We will see if he can come through here . . . Come on JJ!

Never mind that since JJ just homered making Pallante back in the ok category despite him not doing anything else.
However, Wetherholt is bad because .254 isn’t .280.
I am all for a little more balance. The system today is dramatically out of balance. Some teams have a strategic advantage over others and not just in a slight way or even a significant way. Some have monumentally more assets than others. I’m not sure a cap solves that issue. A floor probably does help, but doesn’t address the disparity issue. There probably does need to be some better profit sharing, but also some structure around what owners need to spend to retain ownership. As with most problems, both parties are part of the problem. Hopefully they find a good solution for the fans, but that may be too much to expect.
