If the Brewers have home field advantage throughout the playoffs all wrapped up, the only thing we’ll see The Miz doing in the game is spitting out sunflower seed shells in the dugout……probably not quite at the speed that he can throw a baseball though.
Because the Brewers will skip the wild card round, they won’t play again for six days, until the following Saturday, October 3. So, maybe he throws a few innings here?
The Cardinals sit at 77-82, and currently reside in the 12th spot for the 2027 Draft. With 3 games to go, they have scant opportunity to get a better draft spot, with 2 games separating them from the next bottom feeders. They do, however, have a shot to worsen their draft odds, as they are at the bottom of a pile of cellar dwellers with 77 or 78 wins. The teams to watch this weekend will be Toronto, Baltimore and Miami, with Texas possibly coming into play if the Cards finish hot against the little-to-play-for Brewers.

The Brewers would get skewered if he got hurt. Still, I’d let him warm up, see if he can strike out the first 9 Cardinals, and get him out after 70ish pitches. Then get the bullpen guys a light workout. The Cardinals offense isn’t going to do too much.
The Padres held on and beat Arizona last night 10-7.
That means the Cubs go to San Diego for the three game wild card series.

A win by Philadelphia today and they go to Atlanta.
Losses by both Philadelphia and Arizona and the Phillies go to Atlanta.

The Cards sit at 77-84 and in the 12th draft position for the lottery. Based on last year’s records, they cannot move ahead of Washington or Minnesota, but could pass Detroit if the Tigers win and the Cards lose. Even with a win, they cannot be passed by Toronto. So it’ll either be 11th or 12th in next year’s draft if they don’t win the lottery pick.
Winn was held out yesterday and will not play today due to lingering issues with his thumb. Anyone know more?

Have a buddy over in Fox Point who is all excited about going to the park today to see The Miz fire bullets. I keep telling him that there’s no way they are going to risk injury by trotting him out there in a meaningless game……but surprisingly he’s not believing me. He’s going to find out real soon when they toss a second rate green horn out to the bump.

It’s been 40 years since the Cardinals have closed out a season buried at 25 or more games out of first place. In ’86 they finished the season situated in 3rd place in the six team NLE at 28.5 games off the pace behind a Mets team that won 108 games that year. Poor Bill Buckner…

And in two crucial AL games, Skippy’s Rangers trail the Twins by a 4th inning score of 4-1 in MN. and the Astros have jumped out to a 3rd inning 2-0 lead over the A’s at wherever it is that the A’s call home these days. Heartbeats are doing Buddy Rich drum rolls all over TX.
