Those are not cheap home runs Stanek is surrendering. Those have all been mammoth no-doubters.
June 12, 2026 at 10:18 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #67 thread – Friday, June 12 at Minnesota Twins #309686Speaking of home run fests . . . Stanek is in the wrong business tonight.
June 12, 2026 at 10:17 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #67 thread – Friday, June 12 at Minnesota Twins #309685In this case 1TD, it sure looked like he would have been out of Pop had sent him so I think it was a good call holding him.
June 12, 2026 at 10:16 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #67 thread – Friday, June 12 at Minnesota Twins #309684Up 18-3 going into the 9th against the Sod Poodles, I’m hoping Springfield can hang on tonight in their home run fest game.
June 12, 2026 at 10:14 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #67 thread – Friday, June 12 at Minnesota Twins #309682I don’t think Graceffo gets replaced Gagliano. I think JoJo, Stanek, and O’Brien are traded. Maybe Bruihl too. I could see Gastellum getting there too as he is rule 5 eligible at end of year.
June 12, 2026 at 10:11 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #67 thread – Friday, June 12 at Minnesota Twins #309681That at bat by Jordan is the reason he is up here. One million times better at bat than Gorman was producing over the past month.
Then a lucky break on a hard hit Fermin grounder gives us back the lead.
June 12, 2026 at 8:12 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #67 thread – Friday, June 12 at Minnesota Twins #309653Yeah Gagliano – I’m hoping Hence, Rajcic, and Hjerpe all find their way into our bullpen by season’s end.
June 12, 2026 at 4:08 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #67 thread – Friday, June 12 at Minnesota Twins #309626The team is in a youth movement and Gorman had become unplayable as of late. They had to choose between 3 non-3Bmen who are all right handed and chose likely the best bat of the 3. I would guess they also chose the worst defender of the 3 so my guess is Fermin still gets starts in at least the Pallante games.
I really see Blaze as a good short side platoon partner for Burly and a good pinch hit option more than a third baseman, but we have no good third baseman so we will watch him try for a bit.
June 12, 2026 at 8:52 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #66 thread – Thursday, June 11 at New York Mets #309606Speaking of our lineup – it is soooo much better now with Church playing CF and Nootbaar back. I also love the Jimmy Crooks days (from the offensive side anyway) even though it didn’t net us a win yesterday. If Gorman would snap out of the complete funk he’s in and become even an average or close to average MLB hitter, our lineup would be one of the better ones in baseball now (well, top 10 anyway). Unfortunately, Gorman is in a giant black hole where he’s basically unplayable and Winn has also struggled some for a couple months. Just imagine if this team had kept Arenado and traded Gorman away instead this past offseason for a good AA third baseman who could replace Nado when he retires.
June 12, 2026 at 8:45 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #66 thread – Thursday, June 11 at New York Mets #309605I think if the lineup only had Ohtani and a bunch of Victor Scotts and Michael Sianis, you wouldn’t bat Ohtani first. But this is the Dodgers and they typically feature several great hitters and most everyone else is above average. For them, hitting Ohtani first makes lots of sense. Put the guy who is best at getting on base on base as many times as possible. The second time around he still has good hitters in front of him because it’s the Dodgers.
For the Cardinals, it wouldn’t be as smooth to bat Walker first because he’d have a few guys in front of him who don’t often get on base. I might be ok with swapping Herrera and Walker, but I think the way Ollie has it now is probably best.
June 10, 2026 at 8:45 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #65 thread – Wednesday, June 10 at New York Mets #30950816 straight Mets retired ends with 2 strikes and 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th as Romero hits a guy in the foot. Hopefully this leads to zero tension.
That’s a win as we get the check swing on a 3-2 count on a ball at eye level. Quite the streak we are on. Let’s play 10 in a row against the pond scum and Reds if we can.
June 10, 2026 at 8:40 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #65 thread – Wednesday, June 10 at New York Mets #309507We look like we could give the ’27 Yankees a run for the money.
The fact they are all dead helps our odds.
June 10, 2026 at 8:37 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #65 thread – Wednesday, June 10 at New York Mets #309505Not a great outing for Svanson. Yes, zero hits, zero walks, and zero runs. But quite a bit of hard contact. Zero walks was good though.
June 10, 2026 at 8:17 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #65 thread – Wednesday, June 10 at New York Mets #309501Palm Beach eeked out a nailbiter today – 17-0. They outhit their opponent 20 to 1. I mentioned Yordalin Peña about a week ago as a guy I’m really interested to see this development group try to work with and he’s been pretty darn good since that shout-out. A couple homers again today.
June 10, 2026 at 8:08 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #65 thread – Wednesday, June 10 at New York Mets #309497I love having 2 non-stressful days in a row – well, non-stressful so far.
June 10, 2026 at 6:47 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #65 thread – Wednesday, June 10 at New York Mets #309475Not a good look for our 2 outfielders behind Pallante as the hitter is awarded a “double”. I always find the way they credit errors to be so odd.
Uecker’s philosophy to wait for the ball to stop rolling and then pick it up was spot on!
Steffen – Jalin Flores is a very interesting talent to me. I’d love to hear his thought process on going from a big-name draft prospect to a tenth or eleventh round choice. What did the Cardinals tell him about what they saw in him to bring him here? How has his approach changed through his ups and downs? What does he feel like is his best accomplishment since arriving? What’s he really working on now? I love all the questions you asked Tanner so I’ll defer to your expertise as well! Thanks for the offer.
There are lots of other interesting characters at Peoria. Pretty much everyone on Kyle and Brian’s Top 50 list would be of interest.
June 9, 2026 at 8:31 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #64 thread – Tuesday, June 9 at New York Mets #309412By far the easiest win all season. No tense moments at all. Great win.
1TD – Peoria has been the Chiefs for 30 or 40 years. I know they were the Chiefs when they were part of the Cubs organization. Must be a local thing.
June 8, 2026 at 2:40 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #64 thread – Tuesday, June 9 at New York Mets #309291Gscottar – I read that as “If things go well for Dobbins in his next start and not great for Leahy, Dobbins will join the rotation going forward and Leahy will be the new long reliever.”
June 8, 2026 at 2:38 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #64 thread – Tuesday, June 9 at New York Mets #309290Gorman does have options Abe (2 of them still), but the Cardinals don’t really have options (at least any options that are likely better) to put at 3B. And they won’t next year either unless they trade for someone or sign a free agent. I guess if Gorman continues to strike out more than 50% of the time like he has lately, there are better internal options than that. But expect internal options to all be below MLB average.
That’s a lot of good news on those transactions. Glad to see Deniel Ortiz coming back. Good to get Moreno back too and have Hjerpe move up. Also nice to see Love promoted, although that is slightly unexpected given his mediocre results.
Victor has been optioned according to multiple reports and sources. I just haven’t seen yet who is replacing him, but I would think it has to be Nathan Church. Church should be an upgrade to Victor Scott. He provides the same if not even better defense in CF, has a better arm, and should hit better. He’s not going to steal as many bases, but Scott was never on base to steal so I’m not sure that part matters. Church is likely to still be a below average hitter, but his defense will make him an overall average MLB Center Fielder.
Thank you Steffen then! I always appreciate these personal insights. Keep them coming if at all possible!
June 7, 2026 at 3:58 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #63 thread – Sunday, June 7 vs. Cincinnati Reds #309237Good win. O’Brien gives up a double but that’s it. 5-3 good guys with a sweep.
