Brian, maybe an off the wall question, but I noticed one of the picks who is a pitcher also played some infield. We have seen several players who did both (ie. Masyn Winn) and a thought occured to me; can a pitcher come in and play a position, say in an extra inning game when the bench has been used up already? My initial thought is yes, but I didn’t know if there was any rule against that. Having some athletic pitchers that could come into a game in an energency and play the field would be very helpful!

Any word on how Zack Thompson is doing and when he might be able to go on a rehab assignment? He could really help on the left side out of the pen if/when Jo Jo gets traded.
Schuster was on the roster for one day this time. He replaced Zimmerman between games (doubleheader) and pitched in the 2nd game, and was DFA’d today to make room for Gastelum. So Zimmernan and Schuster were both brought up to the big league team the same day and both were DFA’d after they pitched! We will see if either or both of them clear waivers and return to Memphis or go elsewhere.
I just noticed that the new pitcher we signed, Feltman, was drafted by Boston in 2018. Chaim went there in 2019, so he has seen this guy pitch when he first became a professional ballplayer! May have had a part to play in this signing!
Caraballo moving up as well!
C Heriberto Caraballo has been transferred from Palm Beach (A) to Peoria (A+).
LHP Hendrick Caña & INF Yeferson Portolatin have been transferred from the DSL to the FCL Cardinals.

Some backfill depth since we just DFA’d two pitchers who may or may not come back. He may not ever make it to the MLB team, but looks like a placeholder at least.
We have signed RHP Durbin Feltman to a minor league contract and assigned him to Memphis (AAA).

Brian, with the two DSL players being promoted today, will the Cards add to the DSL roster to backfill, or leave it alone? I still haven’t seen anything from the Cardinals about signing Johel Peña (see above). Since the roster was full until today, could that have caused them to delay the official signing of this player?
As exppected:
In a corresponding move, LHP Jared Shuster has been designated for assignment.
RHP Hunter Dobbins has been returned to Memphis following yesterday's doubleheader.

Why the dislike of Zimmerman? Hasn’t he pitched the most innings of any AAA Cardinal? He may not be part of the future, but filling a need. With all the injuries Memphis has with starting pitching, I feel like he is filling a void right now. When some starters get healthy, he might be expendable if they need roster space.
RHP Jason Savacool has been transferred from Peoria (A+) to Memphis (AAA).
C Andy Yerzy (AAA) has been placed on the Development List.
RHP Xavier Cruz (A) has been placed on the 7-day IL.

Anyone hear what progress Packy Naughton has made? He is only on the 7-day IL but has been out since April 9. We could use a good lefty out of the pen!
Mautz seems like the Cardinal move here, since it would not involve a 40 man move; but this is a different front office! Who knows what they might do!
