Looks like the PGA event in Florida has been delayed. Is there going to be a game at 5?
The outfield should be Velasquez, Scott, Church, and Walker. Sprinkle in Fermin or Saggesse against lefties.
I definitely would employ more of a running game. Whatever games Scott doesn’t start I would employ him late in the game to pinch run.
I have seen no update on Nootbaar. Is he still looking at playing by May 1st?
I’m figuring Fermin, Saggesse, and Urias as backup IF/ OFers. Church, Velazquez, Scott and Walker in the outfield. The big 3 at catcher of Pozo, Pages, and Herrera, although Herrera may DH mostly. With 12 pitchers which I’ll figure next. Prieto is in danger of losing his 40 man spot. Still need to trim another 40 man spot if they add Wetherholt and Velazquez, Probably a reliever.
How many pitchers will go north? 12?
Willis was an expensive draft pick. Seems like that is the likely fate of most mid round picks signing for way above slot value. I believe Willis signed for a million over slot value. That strategy hasn’t seemed to work for the Cards anyway. Too bad about Willis. I always had hoped he’d make it.
March 11, 2026 at 2:52 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2024-2026 #302529I ran across a Henry Bolte, an outfield prospect for the As. He is a young outfielder who hits right handed with burgeoning power and speed. He would be a perfect fit for the Cards. Not sure who the As have at catcher, but maybe Crooks could be a fair trade for Bolte. Bolte got promoted to AAA, and the As have 3 young, solid outfielders,
Bling I neglected to add Hansen. He should be at AAA. He has an upside of an innings eater at AAA or a # 5 starter. With Henderson out, this seems likely.
Can’t find my post, but I did not include Leahy in the starting 5. So Liberatore, May, Fitts, Leahy and AA McGreevy, barring injuries should be our 5 guys. Pallante may be in the bullpen, or even optioned out. He has had a good spring so far.
Also I wonder how bad is Herreras injury? Would it be possible for him to play first, and have Burleson play left some? That would keep the best bats in the lineup. Granted DH may be Herreras spot mostly.
I wonder how Hence has been used this spring in the minor league camp? As a reliever?
With the injury to Henderson one could guess that Memphis rotation would be Mautz, Mathews, Rajcic, possibly Hence if he is still used as a starter, eventually Dobbins, maybe Rembersse until Hendersons comes back.
It’s the interesting time of the year to speculate who will be added to the 40 man roster. Seems like Velasquez could be added. Or he could accept a Memphis assignment, but that might crowd their outfield. I think Davis will start at Springtime either way. Fermin, Pushard and Bruhi have a leg up to make since they can’t be sent down. Roycroft has an option left. At this moment, the starting 5 appear to be Liberatore, May, Fitts, McGreevy, and Pallante. Dobbins may be back, but will need at least the month of April to ramp up in Memphis. Mathew’s could be added before Dobbins if he can master AAA. I’m assuming Henderson would remain behind in Florida while he recovers. Mautz has been pretty good in camp. But he needs better control. Weatherholt needs a spot opened up on the 40 man roster. Saggesse hasn’t played much lately, is he injured? And will Torres make the 26? Many questions.
It’s interesting that Baez is starting in left today. And Velazquez is still in the outfield mix. He does have plus power. But needs more contact.
I like Raquet best among those on the 40 man roster after Romero. I think he can get a strikeout more often. Bruhil doesn’t impress me much. Thompson, Naughton, and Watson could be factors later in 2026.
I hope so , CFICT. I see a projection that Roycroft makes the team also, I like Moreno.
So who gets Nootbaars spot in left?
Has Moreno done enough to be given a chance? I’d take his potential over Roycroft.
The second lefty reliever race has several interesting candidates. We could use more options. Raquet and Watson could be interesting choices, but Watson needs more minor league seasoning. Maybe Hjerpe if he can stay healthy, and productive.
Are we going to do an updated top 50? Or maybe it might be better to do a mid season top 60 before the all star break?
When a player is optioned out, can he be recalled within a certain time period? And for those who are optioned out doesn’t preclude them appearing in a MLB game. Any minor leaguer can appear in games as well, right? And if recalled that doesn’t count as a used option?
Brian, that’s interesting. Is Jordan still going to play some at the hot corner? Between dh, 1b, and catcher there should be plenty of playing time.
That affects more than Crooks. I was hoping Crooks would be the starter with Pages backing up. Pozo could be hp and down to the Memphis shuttle. Based upon the spring Crooks has had it sounds that planned to have Crooks playing every day at Memphis, and Bernal at Springfield. Also a long shot is Rodriguez making it to Springfield by the end of the year. This of course would have to be after promotions above him.
Greatouting by Mathews.
