cardsfan64ParticipantI believe Willis signed for a million over slot value.
He actually signed for a million, but pick value was $211,500, so $$788,500 over; but yeah – we saw nothing for the investment. I really had high hopes for him this year, but after only pitching in 9 games since 2021, he wasn’t able to find it again, at least not to the Cardinals standards. High School pick that as 27 mentioned, could never stay healthy.
March 12, 2026 at 1:47 pm #302592How many pitchers will go north? 12?
March 12, 2026 at 2:16 pm #302593I’m figuring Fermin, Saggesse, and Urias as backup IF/ OFers. Church, Velazquez, Scott and Walker in the outfield. The big 3 at catcher of Pozo, Pages, and Herrera, although Herrera may DH mostly. With 12 pitchers which I’ll figure next. Prieto is in danger of losing his 40 man spot. Still need to trim another 40 man spot if they add Wetherholt and Velazquez, Probably a reliever.
March 15, 2026 at 3:09 pm #302733After Sunday’s game, the Cardinals optioned pitcher Ryan Fernandez to the Memphis (AAA) roster and re-assigned non-roster pitchers Luis Gastelum, Gerson Moreno and Packy Naughton, infielders Blaze Jordan and Jeremy Rivas and outfielder Matt Koperniak to minor league camp.
For me, the most noteworthy move is Naughton, which says Bruihl will be the second pen lefty (if they open with two).

Any comments on the Naughton demotion? I know he wasn’t on thr 40 but had been pretty good this spring. Just looking for some opinion.
March 17, 2026 at 1:06 am #302802I believe we have more lefty relief depth than in the recent 5 or 6 years. Raquet, Naughton, Watson, and possibly Hjerpe. I’m not sold on Bruhil, so the others mentioned above may be needed.
March 19, 2026 at 9:38 pm #302945Cardinals placed several minor league players on the 60-Day Injured List:
Frank Elissalt
Joseph King
Brandon Clarke
Andrew Dutkanych IV
Sem Robberse
Victor Santos
Zack Thompson
Jefferson Moran
Reiner LopezMarch 20, 2026 at 1:32 pm #302990Barring a last-minute addition, the #Cardinals will open the season without a former All-Star on the roster.
That is the first time since the advent of the All-Star Game.

March 20, 2026 at 2:04 pm #302991Every team gets an all-star every year – even if it’s just a ‘participation trophy’ all-star.
They will have one once July rolls around.
March 20, 2026 at 3:18 pm #302992I think what he meant is that there will not be a former all star on the opening day roster. Donovan got traded.

ParticipantI expect naughton to get moved up pretty quickly. Its a fluid situation
March 20, 2026 at 4:11 pm #302994Several Cardinals shrunk from last year to this year lol
March 21, 2026 at 11:20 pm #303021Pitching is set. What about positions? Can we expect a typical 2am announcement to keep the fans from knowing until the mid am? Lol
Something is happening. Someone is getting left off and it won’t be popular IMO.
March 22, 2026 at 7:03 am #303022They may not make the final announcements until after the Springfield exhibition.
March 23, 2026 at 8:10 am #303077As expected, the #stlcards have placed 40-man roster RHS Tekoah Roby on the 60-day injured list at Triple-A Memphis.

Thomas Saggese, Jose Fermin, and Nathan Church will open with #Cardinals.
Nelson Velazquez will start with Memphis.
And … That’s the roster.

March 23, 2026 at 4:01 pm #303100I am a bit surprised Velazquez didn’t make it.

jj-cf-stlParticipantOh my
March 23, 2026 at 4:26 pm #303102Was the Roby move the the 60 day DL meant to open a spot for Wetherholt?
March 23, 2026 at 4:43 pm #303104Was the Roby move the the 60 day DL meant to open a spot for Wetherholt?
I don’t think so. Brian mentioned that Roby is going on the 60 day minor league IL.
March 23, 2026 at 5:08 pm #303106No. Either Nootbaar will go to the 60-day or someone will be designated for assignment.
March 23, 2026 at 5:15 pm #3031071982 willie
ParticipantI think wetherholt was going to make it all the way unless he just looked clueless up there like walker. Partly because he will create more buzz now than later with fans. I can see a lot of number 26 jerseys being sold. I hope he does well. We could use a good success story
March 23, 2026 at 7:17 pm #303113I am a bit surprised Velazquez didn’t make it.
It is the Cardinal way.
