That we got a top 100 guy and he’s not in the Brewers’ top 10 per MLB made me realize it’s gonna be a slog against them for awhile.
Two AA CFs makes sense for a team looking at a 2028 window. Church or a rental next year?
I’m not too worried re two LH OFs. Walker will hopefully be around awhile as RH. Joshua Baez is RH. Hopefully they cover that angle for a good while.
One other benefit of the May extravaganza is that he’s proof of concept. I’d think his experience would make it easier for us to sign some other pitcher to a one year for the next couple years.
Once everyone is done swooning like schoolgirls, stop to consider that the Brewers are not stupid when it comes to their farm system.
bling, at least two of us have already noted that the Brewers still have all of their top 10 prospects. One can be happy about the trade and still be realistic about the challenge ahead.

I dunno. From the team view, perhaps. From the player. maybe less so.
If I was May, I might have wished I had signed somewhere else where I didn’t get flipped at the deadline for the second year in a row.
Trades are disruptive to players’ lives.
Baseball America as of 30 minutes ago lists Frias 5th and Ragsdale 11th among the 57 traded prospects as of that time.
Mo seems to be cleaning house out in Angel Land. I am glad to see someone finally talking some sense into Arte Moreno.

I do like the trade, I just don’t think it likely the Brewers got badly taken in a trade involving their farm. We had a couple mid-tier rentals to trade, and probably got a fair return. More ammo for the system rebuild.
Time will tell. In 1964, folks weren’t too high on that kid Lou Brock compared to the veteran starter Broglio.
Not saying either one of these prospects will become a Hall of Famer, but at this early stage, they both have legitimate upside that neither May nor JoJo provide. Two top 10 prospects in this system is good.
I think I would have Frias at 7 and Ragsdale at 13 or 14 (which I guess is 14 or 15 after Frias gets put in ahead of him). I’d like to see more of Frias to be sure. I’ve seen some of Ragsdale in action in the past. Even if I’m a bit more pessimistic on where these guys are ranked vs some, I still see this as a great win for St Louis.
First thought is Frias 6th. I am pretty high on Bernal. I’m much less sure re where I’d put Ragsdale. I keep reordering the next 14 in my rankings (Mathews, Hjerpe, Clarke, Condon, Ragsdale, Roby, Kuhns, Peete, the other Baez, Gurevitch, Cijntje, Fajardo, Odle). And then I try to figure out where to fit the young guys, Dos Santos, Luna, Cruz, Maniscalso, Padilla, Hernandez…Probably 11th for Ragsdale, but could easily see either higher or lower by a couple?

I think its a good trade. How much it helps milwaukee i dont know. If may pitches like hes capable, they should be pretty good. Cubs have seemed to really go for it. Puts me in a hard spot. I really hate what the brewers didnt do by not making a real effort to get skubal so i think the baseball gods should punish them however i totally despise the cubs so i dont want them to benefit from the brewers punishment but the brewers have made it hard to root for them.
One point contra something Brian said…I think May has legit upside. He looked like a monster at times this year, and it’s plausible to think that he will be better next year, a further year from his health problems. I’m ok dealing him, but I really hope he does not resign with the Brewers. I’d hate to have to face him within division.
Just heard on Baseball Tonight on ESPN that Noot was traded to the Diamondbacks.

Just saw red sox trade a prospect that was once untouchable, marcello mayer. Espn talking about it now. But its a lesson for some of these other teams that say we cant give up our best prospects even for a great rental. Fact is most of those prized prospects end up either getting rid of those prospects for nothing because those prospects good value goes away or you end up letting them walk away for nothing.
