Also BS South and Southwest ExtraMay 11, 2024 at 9:09 pm #251899Is today the day the Cardinals finally fire someone?
May 11, 2024 at 11:16 pm #251916I predict, if they lose this one, Marmol will be fired and Stubby will be named the interim manager.
As the old saying goes…..Do something even if it’s wrong.
May 12, 2024 at 7:16 am #251919As Mike Shannon once said on air:
“And to all you mothers out there, Happy Birthday!”
May 12, 2024 at 7:45 am #251924The press statement will go something like this, “After careful deliberation, we have decided to part ways with Ollie Marmol. Ollie has done a fantastic job but at this time we feel the team needs a new voice and a new direction. We thank Ollie for his service and wish him well in his future endeavors.
Effective immediately Stubby Clapp will take over as interim manager and the organization will begin the search for a new permanent manager. This process will take several weeks as we want to make sure we make the right hire for the best fans in baseball to lead this proud franchise towards its goal of competing for and winning the World Series.”
May 12, 2024 at 8:02 am #251925What reason is there to predict the interim wouldn’t be the bench coach?
May 12, 2024 at 8:12 am #251927It could very well be DD but I have a hunch they may give the nod to Stubby for previous service rendered.
It won’t matter which of them gets to be the Captain of the 2024 Titanic. The ship is headed for Davy Jones’ locker either way.
Oh, there may be a little burst with the shake up – like last year’s 8-3 mini run but in the end this will be a losing team with a losing record.
May 12, 2024 at 8:49 am #251928Wishful thinking seems to be running rampant.
May 12, 2024 at 9:43 am #251930No press release. It should be the owner sitting center stage terminating the POBO and GM right along side the field management. Take care of all family business. Do the same thing the Texas Rangers did two summers ago. They went on to win the World Series a year later. It can be done and should be done.

Funny, Cardinal in France! But of course it’s true. Changes need to be made. Even if we lambaste Milwaukee today 14-2, heads still need to roll. I think the only way that Oli should be occupying the top step of the Cardinal dugout after today is if two things occur. We drill the Crew and Oli rushes into the stands to do a Dr. Archibald “Moonlight” Graham on a small child who was choking to death on a large piece of polish sausage. Take just one of those two events away and Oli should be history.
I’ll be at today’s game, especially since it’ll be a rare big “W” going into the Cardinal win column. It’s a game where definitely either Goldy or Arenado goes yard…..and maybe even both of them ramrod long ones into the cheap seats. I’ll be back in time for din-din, so I think I’ll stroll on over to Johnny’s Steakhouse to let them do the cooking. For whatever reason, last year I had my din-dins there 3-4 times a week, but this year it’s only been once or twice a week for either lun-lun or din-din. Hey Cardinal in France……we sure miss your din-din descriptions this year. Our rookie posters don’t know what they are missing. If you can, please by all means resume, CIF.
May 12, 2024 at 10:01 am #251933I think Marmol will skate by after today, but after the Cubs clobber us at home he will be shown the door. That will be the ultimate humiliation as boos will reign down from the stands and management will have to make the decision, despite Mo’s continual preaching of Ollie’s “amazing” work.
May 12, 2024 at 10:34 am #251936I’m not sure how Turner Ward would keep his job. There will always be bad luck and some players will under perform, but the scale on this team seems to be pointing to something else. On paper, we should have a good offense, but here is a list of our players who are currently having their worst season of their career by wRC+.
Lars Nootbaar : 2024 88 wRC+, career 114 wRC+
Nolan Gorman : 2024 85 wRC+, career 109 wRC+
Brendan Donovan : 2024 87 wRC+, career 117 wRC+
Jordan Walker : 2024 46 wRC+, career 107 wRC+ (Small Sample Size)
Paul Goldschmidt: 2024 59 wRC+, 140 career wRC+
Nolan Arenado : 2024 105 wRC+, career 119 wRC+ (2nd worst to COVID year)That is our projected starting 1B, 2B, 3B, LF, RF, DH/UTIL all drastically underperforming at the same time. 2/3rds of the starting lineup!
May 12, 2024 at 11:00 am #251937DH M. Carpenter L

1B P. Goldschmidt R
LF A. Burleson L

May 12, 2024 at 11:04 am #251939I am firmly on the Ward must go train. He should be the first one dismissed, followed closely by Marmol.
May 12, 2024 at 11:36 am #251941You would think Ward will be shown the door after today. And as mentioned I think Ollie will survive until after the homestand, and will be given the heave-ho then.
Stubby will be given the interim reigns with Descalso remaining as bench coach.
So after four Ks and the “Goldy sombrero”, he gets another start in the three slot. One positive is it looks like Nootbaar is making better contact, Gorman might be showing signs of life as well.
May 12, 2024 at 11:44 am #251943Pugs: The Cardinals have managed to squeeze a lot of the joy out the baseball season with their performance this year, and as a consequence much of my enthusiasm for extraneous commentary. But since you asked, I am about to sit down to some scrumptious saucisson a cuire (a saussage from Lyon with pistachios baked in a brioche pastry) a favorite from my days in the 1960s working in that wonderful city, with a side of fresh snap beans, and for dessert a thick slice of almond cake, washed down with a cool glass of Chablis. In the hope that such a Sunday din-din will cure my baseball blues and nudge our Birds back on the winning road, if it’s not already too late.
May 12, 2024 at 12:44 pm #251945I can’t post again. Getting that error message I used to get.

May 12, 2024 at 12:58 pm #251949That’s quite a feast there CIF!
My din-din today is another Hungry Man’s Turkey dinner along with a big bowl of Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream followed by a 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigar. Then me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for Marmol’s final game as Redbird manager.

May 12, 2024 at 1:10 pm #251952That lineup tells you everything you need to know. Oli probably didn’t fill that card out without strong suggestions from above or he has no fear of losing his job.
May 12, 2024 at 1:14 pm #251953The Trade Goldy talk has been going on for quite awhile now but I think we have to ask ourselves, “What contending team would actually trade for him and what would they give up?” Does he really look like a player that a contender wants in their lineup? We would probably be lucky to get a Siani or Fermin type player in return but I doubt we would get much better than that.
I think trading Arenado makes a little more sense because he might have a little value left. He has a decent batting average although with very little power but still plays a good 3B. The problem is that contending teams aren’t going to want to pay $30M/year for a singles hitter. Arenado has basically become an expensive version of Ken Oberkfell.
May 12, 2024 at 1:14 pm #251954I’m tired of guys saying stuff. Mo, Ollie, Arenado, talking heads, whoever. Nobody can talk runs across the plate. I wish all of them would shut up and the bats will either do the talking that matters or they won’t.
May 12, 2024 at 1:42 pm #251955That first inning should be pretty much a wrap for this one
