With Noot down, Carlson needs to figure it out in a hurry. It’s bad enough that Siani can’t hit. But we can’t have 2 outfielders who can’t hit.
And yeah, probably will see lots of Burleson and Carlson in the outfield.
This one was always going to be tough with the matchup and the news on Noot. We hung in there though. If Mikolas doesn’t hang that slider to Sosa it might have been a different result. But he did and this one goes as a L. I’m just hoping we can win one of the next two and leave Philly one game under .500.

Why Albert? Nudie Bar is a career .244 hitter. What’s he ever really done? People like his name but he’s not done much on the field.
Well there isn’t much point in saying too much of you’re using BA alone as the judge of a hitter. Noot gets on base at a really good rate, drives up pitch counts, and has some pop in his bat too. The overall MLB offensive levels are down, so Noots stats get him to 17% better than the average hitter. By WAR Noot is tied with Winn for 2nd on the team since Noot plays good defense and is a slightly above average base runner
I’d say the mistake to Sosa in the 2nd was the difference, but Nola kept the Cardinals well in check for a little over 6.1 IP’ed. I was hoping to have a chance once he was done, but the Phillies BP was perfect the rest of the way.
Burleson was hard to watch, especially on defense. That missed catch on the warning track led to a run for the Phillies. I thought the Cardinals were just starting to build some momentum and that play killed it.
Fermin’s AB was impressive. Too bad he can’t play the outfield.
Fans forget that what makes The Nootz so great is that he looks just like a young Wayne Nooton…Danke Schoen, baby!
Wow @Shady. Looks like Burly is regressing to his norm. And he’s improved in the outfield, but not good.
I missed listening to the game, but my take is we stayed with a much better team thru 9. That is encouraging at least.
I did see video of the Crawford homer. Letters high meatball reminds me of the pitches the old fashioned sluggers used to murder. Now days, if its not belt high they don’t center it. It is maddening that Ollie pulled him for a PH, but HAL must be obeyed.
They played well enough to win, Bling. The belt high, dead center mistake to Sosa was the difference. Mikolas let his mind wander after the RBI tapper to the right side for the second out of the inning. First pitch, Bam!…And I won’t throw the little guy to the wolves for PH’ing Winn for Crawford. He’d have took all kinds of abuse if he’d have let a LH’ed hitter stand in against Strahm. Now, he can blame it on HAL…Haha!
