I’m wishing the young man nothing other than good fortune in NY. Hoping to soon see him out that boot and onto the highlight reel wearing pinstripes.
August 10, 2022 at 11:56 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 110 thread – Wednesday, August 10 at Rockies #194868I’m not entirely certain of how accurate this figure is, but baseball reference lists Quintana as being owed a salary of only $2M for the ’22 season. If true, that’s a bargain. I hope there are some sort of incentives written into his contract. If not, this guy’s going to have trouble filling his truck with fuel…
August 10, 2022 at 11:40 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 110 thread – Wednesday, August 10 at Rockies #194867Hey, CIF!…These various food comments are killing me. I’m currently in the process of dental implant procedures. Pasta salads and cottage cheese for me in the last few days…ha ha. I’ll be more than real happy when I can once again enjoy salted in the shell peanuts and an ice cold Coca Cola while watching the games. Shouldn’t be too much longer. Call me when you hear the dinner bell in a few more days! I’ll bring a bag of peanuts…GO REDBIRDS!
August 10, 2022 at 11:05 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 110 thread – Wednesday, August 10 at Rockies #194861BW…I’m not certain that Gibson or Koufax walk on cakes when working at Coors Field. If I were a Big League pitcher, I’d report the venue to OSHA…
August 10, 2022 at 10:58 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 110 thread – Wednesday, August 10 at Rockies #194860I’m certain it was simply a typo, but I happened up on a post on this thread that listed Quintana featuring a W/L record of 3-5 with a 2.39 ERA. I certainly wish that was indeed correct, but the lefty features an ERA of 3.39 for the two teams he’s worked for this season. He pans out at 1.50 with the Redbirds after working a real nice 6 IP in his Redbird debut last week in which he only surrendered 1 hit which was a solo tater in his 1st inning of work vs. the Cubbies. Hopefully the W/L record of 3-5 will also look like a typo if he can work his way to being the winning pitcher of record in tonight’s ballgame vs. Colo and improve to 4-5. He certainly deserved to be credited with the win in his Cardinal debut.
GO REDBIRDS!
August 10, 2022 at 9:59 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 110 thread – Wednesday, August 10 at Rockies #194853Hey BikeMike…Yep, every team suffers through one of those at some point during a season. I forget about these types of losses in a big hurry. The ones that really sting and linger are the sort of which would have Mikolas working a nice 7 IP and departing with a 3-1 advantage only to have the BP squander the lead and throw the game into the fire. Those games are slow and painful deaths. Last night’s loss was quick and relatively easy in comparison. How the Redbirds respond tonight will be a pretty good measure of their heart and determination.
Hey Brian…Entirely true, but in my view, no Redbird manager has had any substantial degree of influential input concerning Redbird roster decisions since TLR quit the building.
Woodford? I’m beginning to believe he may be stashed away in a safe house somewhere outside of the Western hemisphere. I’m reasonably certain there’s been no mention of him in the sports section or anywhere else in the StL. newspaper for months. Speaking of which, Hummel’s still okay, but the other guy who reports on the Redbirds is entirely incoherent. Every time I attempt to read one of his game recaps, I feel as though I’ve taken a sedative in order to counter the effects of vodka…I sure do miss Joe Strauss.

August 9, 2022 at 11:01 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 109 thread – Tuesday, August 9 at Rockies #194827C27…Yeah, I don’t know how the Cardinals stay with him, but he’ll probably latch on somewhere. LHP’s who make a living out of the BP have a knack for finding work.
August 9, 2022 at 10:53 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 109 thread – Tuesday, August 9 at Rockies #194824If there’s ever a high leverage situation in an upcoming ballgame that dictates handing the baseball to a lefty out of the BP, I’m not going to be overwhelmed with confidence.
August 9, 2022 at 10:35 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 109 thread – Tuesday, August 9 at Rockies #194821Pugs…Ha Ha! Yeah, I could have swore I saw the bat boy lace one into the gap. I know it’s bad when I’m reduced to simply hoping we can keep them from putting 20 on the board.
August 9, 2022 at 10:31 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 109 thread – Tuesday, August 9 at Rockies #194819All you can say is that all teams have nightmare games like this over the course of a season. I’d rather put one like this in the L column than to let a slim lead slip away late after a nice pitching performance by a member of the rotation. Lace ’em up tomorrow and press on.

August 9, 2022 at 9:36 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 109 thread – Tuesday, August 9 at Rockies #194806Sorry to bail on eveyone with the PBP in that 9 run home half of the 3rd, but it’s hard to type when I’m breaking furniture…
August 9, 2022 at 9:10 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 109 thread – Tuesday, August 9 at Rockies #194794Pugs…Thanks man! I’m wounded…We still have enough frames left to pull this one out of the fire…One word, “youneverknow.”
August 9, 2022 at 9:04 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 109 thread – Tuesday, August 9 at Rockies #194789Pugs…Ha Ha! Sorry man, like I said. I got shell shock. I took a shower before Mikolas did.
August 9, 2022 at 9:01 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 109 thread – Tuesday, August 9 at Rockies #194784Black Hills…Heck the BP only surrendered 2 ER’s. Think he may have left Mikolas in there too long? I thought the ref was going to stop the fight before Marmol came out to get him. The line? 10 ER’s in 2.2 IP to balloon his ERA to 3.50. Brutal outing to say the least.
August 9, 2022 at 8:54 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 109 thread – Tuesday, August 9 at Rockies #194779My goodness.
August 9, 2022 at 8:53 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 109 thread – Tuesday, August 9 at Rockies #194778Bling…I’m not sure even Packy can save us tonight. I don’t remember a half inning by the opposition like this one all season. Brutal.
August 9, 2022 at 8:51 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 109 thread – Tuesday, August 9 at Rockies #194775Pugs…You had better look for someone else to call the action. After this home half, I’m sitting here with shell shock and the thousand yard stare…
August 9, 2022 at 8:46 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 109 thread – Tuesday, August 9 at Rockies #194770Mikolas gets McMahon on a routine ground ball to Eddie for the fist out of the home half of the 3rd.
Grich ropes a belt high offering right back up the middle and into CF for a one out base hit.
Montero loops a single over Edman’s head and into RF for a base hit. Runners at the corners with 1 out.
Mikolas needs a ground ball, but he’s leaving a lot of pitches up in the zone tonight. That’s no good in this league.Diaz lines a double down the RF line. One run in and runners at 2nd at 3rd. Not good.
Line drive off of Mikolas and into CF for base hit abd another run scores…Aw heck, I can’t keep up. I’m having almost as bad of an outing as Mikolas…Take me out coach, I’m through!
August 9, 2022 at 8:11 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 109 thread – Tuesday, August 9 at Rockies #194752Hey Bling…Nice little peaceful town with the exception of when those C-130 turboprops would fly over after taking off from Ramstein. My neighbor worked at Landstuhl hospital. I used to go with her to the BX at Ramstein all the time. Let’s get these bats going and claw our way back and win this thing.
August 9, 2022 at 7:28 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 109 thread – Tuesday, August 9 at Rockies #194734I saw some banter related to the possibility of the Redbirds dealing Eddie over the off season. He’s crossed HP 70 times thus far this season and has a decent chance to get to the 100 runs scored plateau, especially if he can improve his OBP, which he needs to do as of late. He’s tied with Yelich for 5th in runs scored in the NL. That’s why I was curious if the Cardinals have ever dealt a guy after a season in which he scored 100 times. I just have a hard time envisioning that happening. Runs are still fairly important in this game. I really like Eddie’s entire game and hope he remains a Redbird for a while.
