well to be fair to the new hitting coach, its hard to fix the way these guys have been hitting in just a short time. the cardinals have set their season strikeout records by their batters over each of the last 4 years I believe or something like that. one of the ways to get players to focus on contact is to have more hit and runs or even bunting more. of course you need to practice those things first to do them in a game. im hopeful the team will get better but its hard to reverse things as soon as we would like. can only take it one game at a time.
just one more thing, im tired of us having no running game. we got some speed but we refuse to use it. schildt was supposed to be better than matheny in that regard far as stealing and hits and runs. so far im not seeing it, this year anyway. yea we were down here but I belive in pushing the envelope any time, not just when its easy. it was a bad game but it was a win. so on to the next one.
well I recorded this at work but only extended it by 60 minutes which wasn’t enough, it stopped just before Martinez tied it up in 9th. but have since found out what happened. my take is this was an ugly game both ways for both teams. I didn’t get to see the pitching in the 9-11 innings but the only pitcher that did his job I saw was brebbia. wainwright was way off in the first which cost him. miller was horrible as usual. he cant even get left handed batters out. too many strikeouts by our guys and carpenter getting tossed is so him. I didn’t see it but I could see it coming. yea I didn’t like the balls and strikes calling by the umpire but as hitter you have to adjust not just sit up there and refuse to go out of your zone. to me with two strikes, you shorten up and hit the balls where they are pitched and swing at the pitches around the zone not just in it. a good hitter can hit those balls just off the plate. so him getting mad about the zone doesn’t surprise me. in the end, we got a ways to go if we are gonna compete this year. our 3-5 hitters for the most part are really struggling. its not just those but those are the spots that are gonna determine how far we go if our pitching can get better. putting Martinez back up there wouldn’t hurt.
yea that was nbot good. I didn’t like them taking reyes out. I didn’t feel miller was as great a pick up as a lot did and that’s working out unfortunately the way I thought it might. it may change but right now I trust any of the other guys over him. the one thing about hicks is that im not sure hes one of those guys who can pitch over two innings. some guys lose that fire when they go sit down. also our offense seems way too dependent on homeruns. too much inconsistentcy.
well not gonna be able to hang around for a bit, got some stuff the girlfriend wants to do. the things we do. but one thing before I go, Im with Pugsley, why is wacha only hitting 92. its early but that’s a concern.
well that was pitiful. I wonder why our pitchers never seem to dominate other lineups like that. of course its a pitcher making his debut, he will probably no hit us the rest of the way.
well mspaid I agree to a point. but its a fans prerogative to point out bad things they see. nobody on here that ive seen has said the season is over or we should panic. its all part of commenting during game threads. most people that do that are generally diehard fans that live and die with their teams. we are passionate.
I know hader is good but its still kinda sad. gotta move up toi the plate. all pitches but one have been away.
cardinals had plenty of chances vs brewers bullpen. didn’t come through. either cards hitting isn’t that good or brewers relief isn’t as bad as everyone was thinking with those other guys injured.
well just got back to watch the game, I was recording it so didn’t miss a thing. caught up to live now. offense totally fell off tonight. I didn’t think starting oneil for bader made sense when I saw lineup and after seeing him swing the bat or not, I still feel the same. put him in for fowler if you are gonna put him in. Hudson wasn’t great though he wasn’t horrible. two runs isn’t generally gonna cut it no matter whose pitching. relief has been solid.
I personally consider brebbia better than anyone that pitched last night outside maybe hicks so I wouldn’t consider last night the A bullpen. miller at this point sure isn’t that.
well im a believer in a set lineup as long as guys are getting pinch hit opportunities which they have and starters are performing. fowler just got a hit so stopping that roll wouldn’t be good, maybe ozuna could use a break. hes gotten some hits but he isn’t really killing it, always stepping too far off ball. bader has looked pretty good overall. hit the ball hard twice yesterday. but we will see.
good inning for hicks. pretty good game. pitching was iffy at times with Flaherty and miller being the main culprits. some missed opportunities but still we did enough. another young pitcher tonmorrow.
well it makes sense to walk goldy. it was up to dejong to make them pay but no. 4 runs can easily be made up especially since you don’t know if the next pitcher is gonna be on his game. I would have liked to see him have a chance. but these other guys are gonna have to step up.
probably too much there pugsleyaddams. he throws a great pitch then follows it up with a horrible pitch. but ill try to be nice. its early.
wong o-2 with runners at third less than 2 out. not good but works out this time with the catcher botching that ball.
yea brian if I hadn’t already heard that last night, I would have been surprised he didn’t have more but I think he was older when he finally got his shot, im not sure though.
