stlcard25ParticipantAnother passed ball and Wieters gets caught up between third and home, marooning Yadi between 2nd and 3rd. Sigh
April 1, 2019 at 4:52 pm #85459Now the Cards kill the inning with poor base running. I had forgotten, that’s one of the weakness that I don’t recall rearing its ugly head yet this year. Still, the game is there to win now as they go to the bottom of the inning.

stlcard25ParticipantThe new third baseman…Yadier Molina. Well, that could be interesting.
April 1, 2019 at 4:55 pm #85462Sure that was a bad bounce but Yadi didn’t even try to get back to 2nd. That was terrible. Hoping Gant can close it out.

stlcard25ParticipantThat was ugly, but a win is a win. Well done by not giving up, Redbirds.
2-3 on the year now.
April 1, 2019 at 5:00 pm #85464Gant asking for trouble by walking Frazier with one out. Then he gets Marte for the game ending DP. Lose an ugly one, win an ugly one. 1-4 was not going to look good, so whew!
April 1, 2019 at 5:03 pm #85466Weird and ugly game. Probably one of the strangest ones I’ve seen.
April 1, 2019 at 5:14 pm #85468Not a great feeling win but not a loss. Hopefully we can clean things up a little moving forward
April 1, 2019 at 5:19 pm #85471Cardinals winning on passed ball in last at-bat— Kozma 9/13/13 b10th Sea, Taguchi 6/23/04 b8th Cubs, Mumphrey 6/5/79 b9th SF

Participantwell I recorded this at work but only extended it by 60 minutes which wasn’t enough, it stopped just before Martinez tied it up in 9th. but have since found out what happened. my take is this was an ugly game both ways for both teams. I didn’t get to see the pitching in the 9-11 innings but the only pitcher that did his job I saw was brebbia. wainwright was way off in the first which cost him. miller was horrible as usual. he cant even get left handed batters out. too many strikeouts by our guys and carpenter getting tossed is so him. I didn’t see it but I could see it coming. yea I didn’t like the balls and strikes calling by the umpire but as hitter you have to adjust not just sit up there and refuse to go out of your zone. to me with two strikes, you shorten up and hit the balls where they are pitched and swing at the pitches around the zone not just in it. a good hitter can hit those balls just off the plate. so him getting mad about the zone doesn’t surprise me. in the end, we got a ways to go if we are gonna compete this year. our 3-5 hitters for the most part are really struggling. its not just those but those are the spots that are gonna determine how far we go if our pitching can get better. putting Martinez back up there wouldn’t hurt.

Participantjust one more thing, im tired of us having no running game. we got some speed but we refuse to use it. schildt was supposed to be better than matheny in that regard far as stealing and hits and runs. so far im not seeing it, this year anyway. yea we were down here but I belive in pushing the envelope any time, not just when its easy. it was a bad game but it was a win. so on to the next one.
April 1, 2019 at 6:49 pm #85484willie, Carp got tossed after the 3B ump rung him up on a check swing. He was obviously frustrated, given it was his 4th K of the game. I watched the replay closely, and it could have gone either way, so Carp definitely overreacted. I called it a meltdown. He immediately objected before the ump even rung him up, as if he knew he was going to be rung up, which made him look wrong. He then yelled out “you suck” based on an easy lip read. At that point the HP ump tossed him.
April 1, 2019 at 6:52 pm #85485We also do not know what Carp and the ump may have discussed earlier. Maybe he was given a final warning the prior time he K’d. Carpenter has two reputations. One is that he has a great eye at the plate. The other is that he is a frequent complainer. Today, the latter one bit him in the rear end. Fortunately, it was not a game-changer.
April 1, 2019 at 7:04 pm #85486Here’s the problem I saw with the ejection. He yelled at the 3B ump but it was the HP ump who ejected him. That’s what stuck in my crawl.
April 1, 2019 at 7:21 pm #85487All I know is Marcel Ozuna’s throw home on that Sac Fly was 84.4 mph. Topped any of his throws from 2018. Has he turned a corner? lol
I really hope we see Ozuna on the bench more. Although I am impressed at the 1 walk he has this season. Took him 15 games to work a count for one last year.

stlcard25ParticipantBased on the info in the tweet Brian shared, there would appear to be a 2/3 chance that we will lose to the Red Sox in the World Series this year.
April 1, 2019 at 8:47 pm #85493The Cubs have committed 6 errors tonight.
April 1, 2019 at 9:02 pm #85494The Cubs have committed 6 errors tonight.
Those are the Cubbies we all know and love.
And regarding Carpenter, he was called out on strikes early in the game on a pitch that was clearly outside. That stupid K-Zone thing they have showed it clearly outside. He just turned and walked away without saying anything and that surprised me. He was probably fed up by the late innings.
April 2, 2019 at 6:14 am #85497Happy with the win, and glad to see they didn’t give up, but they’re showing signs of last year’s problems. Walking batters in late/extra innings and base running will lose them games over the long run. But they turned a great DP to end the game, so not all bad. Now need our starters to start putting up zeroes.
April 2, 2019 at 6:53 am #85498Glad to get the win.
April 2, 2019 at 7:41 am #85502I am hoping that Andrew Miller is not a mistake. I had my doubts when he was signed but they put out a lot of positive PR about him. Now it is time to stand tall Mr Miller.
April 2, 2019 at 8:41 am #85510Let’s be honest Carp was mad at the strike called his first 2 AB where one was very questionable and the other was a foot outside, he had enough of the #UMPSHOW and I agree with him their strike zones are a joke!
April 2, 2019 at 8:52 am #85511Carp cannot get thrown out of the game. The team should come first. Let Schildt come out and get tossed.
April 2, 2019 at 8:54 am #85512Strange thing is they should have scored at least 2 runs, but the lucky carom helped the Pirates. Glad it didn’t cost the Cards a W.
April 2, 2019 at 9:26 am #85518They should just eliminate the home plate umpire and have the K zone call strikes and balls. 2/3 umpires behind home have no idea how to call a consistent strike zone
