ParticipantApparently ixan henderson is on the shelf for good this year. Elbow injury. Not too good.

ParticipantLosing pallante hurts, hopefully short term and we dont have a run on injuries.

ParticipantI was reading an article, not sure where it came from. But the author gave compelling reasons why it isnt that big a deal right now far as how many catchers we have. One of them mostly dhs, one is a lefty, other is a righty so can depend on pitcher we are facing. I dont think rodriguezs call up is imminent. Im sure if a great offer came for either crooks or maybe even benal they might jump on it but can afford to be patient.

ParticipantWell you can put anybody anywhere on the diamond, doesnt mean they will be good at it.

ParticipantJust saw the error. Toatally on centerfielder, let left fielder catch the ball. Of course myers should have caught it anyway. Just two bad mistakes on one play but go cardinals way

ParticipantThat is true gscottar, very true. But in those days things were a bit different. No free agency. Also fans had very little to say other than choosingn not to come to ballpark. No social media so no outrage over stuff like there is today.

ParticipantWell got to watch tbe game after the fact. Baez did great obviously. I def think he can really do damage to left handers. That stance opens himself up to right handers a bit. But he was great, historic even, today so thats all that matters. Cardinals still need to clean up defense a bit. The pop fly over jj should have been an error, not on jj but on walker but cubs were gifted a hit. Of course i guess mcreevy wasnt charged with earned runs on tbe 3 run homer but should have been i believe but thats just my opinion. But good game overall.

ParticipantGood start

ParticipantFunny thing is the word fair always means something different depending on who you are talking to.

ParticipantI think its good they did that for mikolas. I think his time may be done. He was a really good pitcher for us for a good while. My memory isnt good anymore but i can still remember them signing him out of the foreign league he was in and how happy he was. I wish him well.

ParticipantWell im not a big fan of swing n miss guys no matter how many homers they hit. Back in the day when smart experienced baseball gurus made decisions vs analytic department heads,a lot of swing n miss guys never got to play in an mlb game. But times have changed i guess or maybe its the people.

ParticipantI think trading bernal before ypu see what hes got at mlb would be a mistake. Crooks has had at least some opportunity but has he had enough. I dont know. All these catchers have had some hype, best we find out the truth before we let the wrong ones go.
1982 willie
ParticipantTrue gscottar. It depends on how much ownership believes the public is on its side. They also throw out how the nfl has a salary cap and that produces a better chance for all teams to win. Which is all bogus. In the nfl, injuries more than anything else has a lot to say about your season. All teams have injuries but not all injuries are equal. Like you say, im hoping they are working somewhere towards the middle but we will see.

ParticipantFor one not all those pitchers will work out, some may go to bullpen roles. Pitching almost always works itself out. Bernal is a different story. You can keep him down but that blocks rodriguez a bit but he still may need more time to hone his catching skills at AA. A lot of 27 depends on non playing questions.

ParticipantI think its ok move if they give him the playing time. Hard to evaluate anything if he doesnt get enough opportunities. Back in the day you might be able to slip someone up to catch pitchers a little offstride, nowadays esp given how highly touted he is, they have his strengths and weaknesses already memorized. Always fun to see a new guy. I dont watch the cubs games often but i might at least watch this on record anyway.

ParticipantWell brian i dont have any idea how to share a link, i do all this from a phone. Im sure its easy but just not sure. I read the article in redbird rants, josh jacobs i believe was the writer. There was also a similiar article with sports illustrated. They didnt say bernal was going to be called up but only to note that he should. I get the 3 catcher thing but with all these catchers including rodriguez on the doorstep, you need to start getting that settled and figure out who you can deal in a package. At least that was the thinking.
1982 willie
ParticipantThis seems weird but i had just read an article saying baez prob wasnt going to be called up cause he has a lot of swing n miss. That it more than likely would be benal since hes further along and has less of that. Interestimg.could of just been idle speculation but the writer seemed pretty sure.

ParticipantIts always hard to say about negotiations because stuff can be happening behind the scenes that no one knows. So are they getting anything done, hard to say. The mlb puts stuff out there but it all works under a cap. The players put stuff out there but it works without a cap. So it is a question if the cap issue is effecting other discussions. Could be there wont be any discussions til thats resolved. Any real ones anyway. I hope that the players union is strong. Unions in this country have been gutted by stupid right to work laws and the general apathy of the workforce companies hire im that just dont really care, if that place leaves or whatever, they will just move on down to the next pasture. So im all in for the players, if i have to miss a few games, thats fine.

ParticipantI dont see why we cant win if our pitching is like series. Though to be honest,i thought philly would be better. I dont think they have a shot. Prob better for them to sit the playoffs out.

ParticipantIm going to have to agree with bling. Just follows a pattern of a lot of our guys. Good for a hot minute then just kinda burn out. Also like bling said, lets stop trying to compare guys to ozzie. Just no comparison.

ParticipantI dont really understand the velazquez, pereira thing. To me i dont see a pennies worth of difference between them. Same position so they arent gaining nor losing anything. Maybe there is more to pereira than first glance but i doubt it.

ParticipantIll give you coors but really to me thats the big outlier. Rockies hit better at home than road by 17 points. No one on their team is putting up historic numbers so it isnt that big a deal. Now some parks have better power numbers than others but im mainly talking about hitting overall. Hitting a single or double for that matter is mostly the same. Busch is fairly expansive should be easier to hit for average. Ive seen guys do it. Everybody plays everywhere now, its just not the big difference in my opinion that people make it out to be other than say coors. People talk about the field in cincy but when play there, usually neither team really tears it up.
