well I think Flaherty should have been pulled after 4 especially being we are at the top of the lineup. but maybe he can show some grit. 80 pitches is a lot this time of year. yadi throws out cain, no reason to run there but thank you very much.
well I guess justice was served. fowler took a pitch right in his wheel house that should have been strike three.
I don’t know if he would have got cain but would have been nice if dejong had at least got the handle.
not a bad inning for Flaherty. would like to see him throw less pitches so he can start going deeper than he did last year. right now hes on pace for 5.
i don’t know what bader is doing. you should never get caught looking on a two strike fastball. if the pitcher throws a great changeup or curveball, you tip your hat but a fastball right down the middle, no. its why i don’t agree with how they teach hitters to bat anymore especially with two strikes. they want you to try to guess or go by pitcher trends. sorry that’s not good. look fastball, throttle down but great inning regardless.
seems like it might be a tight zone tonight. hard to say yet since peralta has been well off but a couple have been right there.
sad thing is for me they got pacers basketball on my hd fox channel so i got to watch it on a standard def channel. wouldn’t be so bad if i had a regular full hd tv but i have a 4k tv. it really makes it look bad but i am getting to watch it. first world problems i guess.
well i would rather have Martinez in there for fowler but oh well. i expected the same today. to do it differently the second game would just be admitting the opening day lineup wasn’t right. hopefully the top hits a little better and the bottom keeps it up.
yea count me in the camp that doesn’t like goldy batting second. putting him at the third spot gives him more of a chance to hit with somebody on in the first inning plus he still comes up in the first inning either way. I as always don’t like bader batting eighth. why would you put the one guy on your team who can regularly have a chance to steal a base in a spot where if he gets on, most of the time you are gonna have the batter who is the pitcher most of the time, sacrifice. baders speed, while still useful, is a lot less useful. I know there was an article that said he stoled about the same amount regardless of spot last year but that’s more because he doesn’t try to steal enough in my opinion. it just makes sense if hes on in front of a pitcher they are gonna sacrifice or sometimes hit and run. also like yesterday, if the pitcher fails to get the bunt down, are you gonna steal with say two outs and carpenter, a home run threat up, more than likely not. so again baders speed is nullified to a certain extent. it just tells you how far the game has fallen for the cardinals since the teams of whitey Herzog.
I don’t personally see the problem with a tie especially in spring training games. the score of the games mean nothing, in fact I would like to see them do away with the scoring in spring training far as the audience goes. obviously the coaches can keep track to have their stats but outside of that they aren’t necessary. people are too competitive. far as ties in regular season. I don’t have a problem with them either. you should try to have a winner but in a 162 game schedule, a tie isn’t that big of a deal. if you were giving me a choice, a tie game vs a stupid rule borrowed from kids leagues like putting a runner automatically at second leading off an inning, ill take the tie any day. that rule makes some sense with kids games cause they may have school and parents have work, its these players jobs to play these games, they don’t have school, and the games go on whether there are fifty thousand or one thousand people at the park, so people are free to leave anytime. people tend to leave early anyway to just avoid traffic or whatever.
well this is my take. overall a great game to watch. it was nice to see the bottom part of the lineup hit. liked seeing bader try to bunt, though it didn’t work out. I personally would have liked to see him try to steal that one time he was on base after mikolas struck out trying to advance him. I know carpenter a homerun threat but id rather be aggressive than hope for something. top of the lineup struggled mightily. I thought mikolas was ok, just a little off. I thought leone and brebbia were really solid. gant was ok as well. we struck out too much but we faced some tough pitching. overall a good effort, just not good enough like the manager said.
