Randy Arozarena, Lane Thomas, Adolis Garcia, Justin Williams, Tyler O’Neill all ahead of Dylan Carlson in the minors. Again, and this is just my opinion, but what’s the rush. If the concern is that he’ll backslide at a lower level, that is a concern. Let him kick ass at an appropriate level like Montero and O’Neill and then promote him accordingly, hoping with glowing accolades to build his confidence. I want him coming to St.Louis knowing he has blown away the minors and belongs, not with questions of whether he’s there because he’s the teams silverspoon.
Personally I’d like to see them slow down the process. He’s being given the Pete Kozma treatment; that’s advancing him before he has excelled at each level. Why the rush? Let the kid gain confidence through domination. Right now they are advancing him when he becomes adequate at each level. I don’t care what the metrics say. They ruined Kozma’s career by trying to rush him to the bigs. Perhaps they could pump the brakes a few times on Carlson’s rise through the system.
This is our last round of voting so I select as most under-rated
1. Tommy Edman
2. Justin Toerner
3. Jeremy Martinez
4. Matt Pearce
5. Freddy De JesusFlood21 wisely choses as follows;
1. Fagalde,
2. Walsh,
3. Dobzanski,
4. Prendergast,
5. Julio RodriguezWhile we, the Cardinal minor league fans, have deemed Elehuis Montero to be the player to have developed his skills the most in 2018, MLB.com has voted him to be our Breakout Player for 2019. A day late and a dollar short boys! Albeit, if he hits .300 and dings 30+ homers, he will have one upped himself.
Since no one wants to vote for Top Acquisition, let’s just award the honor to Malcolm Nunez as a no-brainer and move on.
5. Most under-rated prospect; who should get more love.
I vote;
1. Malcome Nunez
2. Jhon Torres
3. Joerlin De Los SantosFLOOD VOTES; 1. Malcolm Nunez
2. Jhon Torres
3. Connor Capel4. Top prospect acquisition; trades + Rule 5 draft + free agent signings for the 2018 season
Voting is now open for our top 2018 pickup from anywhere other then the draft. List only top 3.
This was obviously the one that no one agreed upon. There were 36 players voted for and only 8 players got 2 votes, however, we must have a winner and the Breakout Player for next season is ……..Jake Woodford.
Ted Simmons is easily one of the ten best catchers of all time and should be in the Hall. Fred McGriff can’t make the HOF with far superior numbers to Baines? The thing about Dewey Evans is that his career numbers pretty much mirror Jim Rice, the only difference being Dwight’s 8 Gold Glove awards for his superior right field defense. Heck of an arm too.
Come on men, this will be fun to look back on and see who is the best judge of immerging talent.
Hoorah for our side! Love the deal. Our new General Manager did a fine job orchestrating this trade. I think Weaver will be a fine pitcher for years to come. Carson Kelly can now focus on being the man behind the plate and should blossom. Andy Young is a personal favorite of mine in our farm system. He gets better at every step up through the system. He could be a poor man’s Jeff Kent. I wish them all the best in their new homes.
Can we keep Goldschmidt long term? We’ll see, but the focus is on a World Series title in 2019 and maybe that convinces Paul to stay.
I weigh in with the following choices;
1. Victor Garcia
2. Jake Woodford
3. Jesus Cruz
4. Dylan Carlson
5. Zach PrendergastFlood 21 votes: Breakout 2019: 1.Dylan Carlson, 2.Luken Baker, 3.Evan Mendoza, 4.Conor Capel, 5.Justin Williams
And the winner of the Player deemed to have developed his skills the most in 2018 is…………………..……….Elehuris Montero!
Next up; 3. Breakout player; which player do you think will breakout in 2019
Any more votes before I close?
Pads, nice to have you and Nyquis aboard for these inaugural presentations. The first one will bare your name, if that’s okay.
And the top Surprise Player of 2018 is………………….Lane Thomas
Next up voting for the Player deemed to have developed their skills the most this past season. I cast the following vote.
1. Andy Young
2. Elehuris Montero
3. Lane Thomas
4. Evan Kruczynski
5. Malcom NunezClearly ‘DangerZone’ you never saw a single game Donaldson played in the playoffs and yes he led the Blue Jays on those post season runs. It wasn’t his fault they didn’t win it all. The Blue Jays W/L record nosedived with Josh on the DL. Funny you would mention Heyward and Trout since both are defensively superior to Harper. Somehow you missed my comment that Harper is no Mike Trout, inferring, of course, that the Angels superstar is much better then Bryce. Ergo there is no one I’d select over Mr. Trout. Heyward!?………Bahahahahaha!!!
Cardinals2016 – I’ll take option # 2, Donaldson is a gamer, a leader, a very intelligent player. I’ll take him and the World Series title to go with it. Brantley would be an excellent #2 hitter behind Carp and if he gets hurt, yet again, we have O’Neill to step in and do his best Mark McGwire impersonation.
Onyxgem, what I see is a Narcissist caught up in his own press clippings that the other Washington players can’t wait to get rid of and once they do, they will have a cohesive unit of extremely talented players who will make the playoffs in 2019. The Harper is God narrative is an anchor on the team psyche; an infestation on team moral. Is that what you want to bring into our locker-room for $35 mil a year. Let’s change the team name to St. Louis Harper’s & the other players formally known as Cardinals. Harper is NOT a leader; Goldschmidt is, Donaldson is. Harper at $25 mil a year could help us win a title. Anything above that will cause locker-room jealousies’ to flair when he hits below .275 again. Don’t buy into the exaggerated hype of Scott Boras. He’s no Mike Trout.
Bryce Harper has done such an outstanding job leading Washington to a World Series title…..oh wait…that never happened. Okay he did a masterful job leading them to the playoffs every year…oops…never did that either. In fact, he hasn’t led Washington to anything! So what is the big deal about this overblown, over-rated, over thought of under-achiever that has everyone’s shorts in a knot to sign him for way more money then he deserves. Does Borass have you all hypnotized or something.
I kind of excluded 1st year players because we have no expectations for them really. Let’s call this one the “Pads Award”.
1. Elehuris Montero
2. Leandro Cedeno
3. Lane Thomas
4. Evan Kruczynski
5. Alex FagaldeThis has got to be the best year ever for voting. Thank you Pads for hosting and to all the many posters here this season…..well done!!! This truly is a passion for me and ya’ll made it a ‘must participate’ this year. Watch for 14Nyquist’s thread, which will be an extension of this for more voting enjoyment.
Nyquist17 – Rethinking the concept of our previous discussion. Voting for top pitcher, player and so on is redundant to what Brian is doing, so maybe let’s stick with what he doesn’t cover.
1. Top Surprise player; which player unexpectedly progressed up the system
2. Largest Development player; which player honed his skills the most
3. Breakout player; which player do you think will breakout in 2019
4. Top prospect acquisition; trades + Rule 5 draft + free agent signings for the 2018 season
5. Most under-rated prospect; who should get more love. (Bw52 Award for being the only one to give Lane Thomas any love last year.)List top 5 in each
