    1. Top Surprise player; which player unexpectedly progressed up the system
    2. Largest Development player; which player honed his skills the most
    3. Breakout player; which player do you think will breakout in 2019
    4. Top prospect acquisition; trades + Rule 5 draft + free agent signings for the 2018 season
    5. Most under-rated prospect; who should get more love. (Bw52 Award for being the only one to give Lane Thomas any love last year.)

    List top 5 in each

Let’s start the voting for # 1. Who were your top surprise minor league players in 2018

I kind of excluded 1st year players because we have no expectations for them really. Let’s call this one the “Pads Award”.

    1. Elehuris Montero
    2. Leandro Cedeno
    3. Lane Thomas
    4. Evan Kruczynski
    5. Alex Fagalde

    1. Lane Thomas – He was an afterthought until this year.
    2. Lane Thomas – I think he became much better than most expected.
    3. A. Garcia – He stared breaking out this year, then choked in his brief foray into the majors, and couldn’t find his mojo after that.
    4. Jhon Torres – Why not?
    5. Alex Fagalde – Based on his production this year, Falgalde has to be among the most underrated.

Pads, nice to have you and Nyquis aboard for these inaugural presentations. The first one will bare your name, if that’s okay.

Gentlemen. To leave Alexander “The Great” Fagalde out of this conversation would be akin to speaking of great Cardinal short stops of all time…..and not mentioning Ozzie Smith. Ok, not quite to that degree, but Alexander sure sailed right into Cardinal Nation radar with a stellar 2018 campaign. I really could not place him into the “surprise” category as some of us (cough cough) knew he was a sleeping tiger on the precipice of pouncing. I put Alexander “The Great” in the “Largest Development” grouping with the likes of some pretty fanciable company in the person of “Elvis” Montero and Malcom Nunez.

    1. Randy Arozarena. Expect him to catch up to Memphis like he did Springfield.
    2. Brady Whalen. Underrated solid season at State College blossoms in A ball.
    3. Francisco Justo. He’s got the stuff to really make a name for himself, just raw.
    4. Ludwin Jimenez. All he does is win.
    5. Kody Whitley. He had an excellent 2018, just think he’ll finally get recognized. He’ll be in the big league bullpen one day.
