Jmart with the solo shot to give the Cards the lead. Cmart with a sloppy inning gives it right back. 1-1
Not a super strong group today, but Odorizzi isn’t an ace and Martinez is. The Cards *should* win this one but we will see.
Agree with Scott, and nominally with jager. The Cards could really use a top flight 3B or 1B option. St Louis could actually afford Machado and would be a good option for him as well. I’m not expecting them to pony up the $350+M to make it happen though.
Really not a good performance by the offense. Romero is an ok prospect but it’s not like he’s been dominating the minors.
If I’m the Cards I’m letting Bowman be the sacrificial lamb. Unless they can score to make it a closer game I’m putting him out there for 2+ innings even if he’s awful.
Two on with two out, and Fowler…pops out to RF. Hero last night or not…he should probably not be hitting in the third spot until that average comes up.
And with that, Gant is in trouble again. First and third with one out.

Romero now with 6 Ks. Gant has settled in too…going to need more timely hits since they’ve all been spread out thus far tonight.
Little better second for Gant. Getting at least 5 and preferably 6 innings from him would be huge.
As for the Twins starter, he’s got some velocity but a few mistakes with the sinker and I think the Cards can get him for 3-4 runs, maybe more.
Stephen Piscotty’s mother passed away last night.
Cool to have the back to back national TV games. Gant has some pressure on him with the bullpen being well used last night. Hopefully the offense can put up some runs and Gant gives us six solid innings, but most importantly…get us to six straight wins.
With all the delays, I was in bed far before this one enfed. Great to get the W on the dramatic homer by the beseiged Fowler. Hoping this helps light a fire under him. Go Cards!
Lester walks in the tying run…wait, nope. He gets the gift call and then gets Wacha to fly out to get out of the inning.
Killer double play there. This is the kind of stuff Lester gets away with all night every time he plays the Cards. For a basket case, he’s sure in the Redbirds’ heads.
Aggressive base running gets Bader thrown out at first and then Fowler doesn’t take second so… pretty poor base running there.
Zero issue with the comment. I hope the Cubs fans go home miserable every game night the rest of history.
Bader seems to play with a lot of intensity. It’s sort of Tommy Pham-like, perhaps without the gigantic chip on his shoulder. Nonetheless, he’s at least an average player overall it seems and perhaps a little more. It’s nice to have that kind of depth available when someone goes down.
Trading Kelly talk is hardly nonsense. There’s another guy who may be just as good right behind him. I didn’t say they should trade him right now, but down the road it makes sense to explore it.
Now trading Fowler…that’s nonsense talk. He would have to approve it and he has very little to no value to an opposing team. To think that it will happen is pure fantasy stuff.
