Ouch!
Mike Leake is the 6th pitcher since 2010 to give up 12+ hits in an appearance with just 65 or fewer pitches https://t.co/DZjjGGaNvF #efficient pic.twitter.com/tXQ13DzIkT

April 24, 2018 at 4:40 pm #49950I am so glad Leake is gone. Just never fit with the Cards porous defense last year. The defense seems better now, or more tolerable when Martinez continues to rake. Although I wish Matheny would take out Carpenter late in games if he is covering third.
April 25, 2018 at 10:22 am #50069Miguel Socolovich got a brief cup of coffee with the Braves then DFA’d.
April 25, 2018 at 10:44 am #50071Valera e Lucas also both up and down in just a couple of days.
April 25, 2018 at 1:58 pm #50088Peter Bourjos was squeezed out of center field with the Angels when some young gun named Mike Trout burst onto the scene for good in 2012.
Today Bourjos was DFA'd by the #Braves to make room for Ronald Acuña. That'll make for interesting stories down the road.

April 28, 2018 at 6:56 am #50369Matt Holliday still wants to play. Given he is just one day older than Albert, I find the contrast in their career fortunes interesting to ponder.
April 28, 2018 at 9:20 am #50379Matt looks at peace with the world in that photo. He is likely a couple of years younger than Albert, although that is a different topic.
The Cardinals did the right thing when they signed Matt to the contract after 2009. I recall some people were actually hoping we would sign Jason Bay at that time, rather than Holliday. That would have been a huge blunder. Bay screwed up his career by not signing a good offer from Boston, where he was in a park tailored to his style.
But more than that, I had seen a lot of Holliday with the Rockies, and knew he was a much better player than Bay. Plus he is a class act as a person (not that Bay isn’t, but I did not know much about him).
April 30, 2018 at 5:06 pm #50613Bad season gets worse.
#BlueJays say Randal Grichuk sprained his right knee on diving catch yesterday, had MRI which showed damage. He’s expected to miss three weeks.

April 30, 2018 at 6:25 pm #50615Looks like Breyvic Valera is coming up to LA since Corey Seager is out for the season.
April 30, 2018 at 6:38 pm #50617Other than the fact that Grichuk had a good day yesterday, the injury is probably good overall for him.
May 1, 2018 at 7:19 am #50640Lance Lynn to reporters Monday after his loss to Toronto dropped his April record with Twins to 0-3 with 8.37 ERA: "It's been the worst month of my career and I'm ready for it to be over." Lynn's career record in April with #stlcards was 16-4 with 2.84 ERA. pic.twitter.com/uFOIKcLM2v

May 4, 2018 at 10:16 am #50897A decade ago, Dan Haren authored two of the better seasons by a #GenerationDbacks starting pitcher in club history. He’s now a behind-the-scenes reason why the team’s rotation ranks among the best in baseball since the start of last season. https://t.co/DIVQ5p7EW2

May 4, 2018 at 10:44 am #50904Oh man, this brings up memories of that deal that I was adamantly against – Haren, Calero and Barton for Mark Mulder. Hated that deal when it was made, but in retrospect I thought Barton would end up being a much better player than he was. At least the fact that he did not have much of a career kept the deal from being overwhelmingly bad.
But it looks like Haren is still paying dividends, but not for the Cardinals so the deal still is haunting the Redbirds.
May 7, 2018 at 12:03 pm #51357Stephen Piscotty’s mother passed away last night.

ParticipantSo sad. So young.
May 7, 2018 at 1:56 pm #51362She was younger than me. My most heartfelt prayers go out to her family and loved ones.
May 7, 2018 at 6:21 pm #51374I bet Mrs. Piscotty was a grand lady. When they go younger than they should, they seem to be predominantly real fine individuals. What happens after we die? I have a real good hunch that it’s something completely unexpected….hopefully in a good way.
May 10, 2018 at 10:48 am #51638One of the first elbow ligament repairs and lotta miles on that right arm since Maness was a starter in the minors. Not a good sign that the Royals, who know him best at this point, will not give him a chance to start at Triple-A. It is not as if their MLB rotation is among the best in the game. In their defense, Maness has not been successful for them to date. But certainly wishing him well.
Seth Maness asked for and has been granted release from royals org. He prefers to start. 2.89 era in minors career as starter.

May 10, 2018 at 9:51 pm #51675Kyle Lohse ended his comeback with the Royals and announced his retirement.

May 13, 2018 at 8:27 am #52007Jon Jay, who batted .287 in six years with #stlcards, is batting .293 for the 2018 Royals and is second on the club in both hits (43) and on-base percentage (.360). pic.twitter.com/9keYRvNJxG

May 13, 2018 at 9:15 am #52019Jay has carved out a nice little career. When coming through the Cardinals system, who would have thought he would make more impact with the Cardinals than Colby Rasmus.
You just never know how things will play out. The Angels drafted Randal Grichuk before Mike Trout. Back in the ’60s the Reds drafted Berni Carbo ahead of Johnny Bench.
And on the theme of former Cardinals, both Grichuk and Carbo spent some time with the Cardinals, and had some good moments with the club including some regular playing time. But Bench and Trout are two of the best ever.
May 13, 2018 at 9:18 am #52021Jon looks happy here. He could be playing OF for us… he has been playing all three spots for the Royals. Oh well, just a thought.
May 22, 2018 at 6:38 am #53589I just got weirded out a little as someone in my fantasy league added Daniel Descalso. He has an .854 OPS. Unbelievable to me.
May 22, 2018 at 7:15 am #53597Pads, I think your friend is about three weeks late to act. Descalso’s playing time is going to dry up now that Jake Lamb is off the DL. He had a nice run, though and has put together a much better career than I expected.
