I’m wondering if this might be the way to go against RHP
1) Winn SS
2) Donovan LF
3) Burleson DH
4) Contreras C
5) Goldschmidt 1B
6) Arenado 3B
7) Nootbaar RF

However, Gorman has to cut down on the Ks to play ahead of Pham.Siani came out of the game and is getting an MRI of his oblique, so that doesn’t sound promising. That could be a lengthy shutdown.
How can you place Arenado in the 9 slot after we saw him rip that clutch 2 out, 2 RBI base hit at Wrigley today? I imagine he’d demand a trade to the Dodgers before he’d tolerate something like that…
Maybe it’s time to try to establish a top of the order nucleus for the future with some talented, young hitters. Go Winn, Donovan, Burleson 123 against RHP and LHP. For now, fill in the blanks with the rest of the lineup.
Hurdy Gurdy hitting .236 with a .601 OPS vs lefties.
Burleson one of the worst in MLB vs lefties…hitting just .198 with a .512 OPS be lefties!
Why would any manager want these guys hitting 2nd & 3rd vs lefties? Better still…why aren’t they sitting vs lefties?
Burleson cannot hit left handed pitching at least up to this point, his defense is average at best but he hits RHP very well. For now he needs to be in the lineup against RH starters but will need to be subbed out in late innings for D and if the other team throws a LH reliever at him.
He’s a nice 4th or 5th outfielder and/ or RH bat off the bench – nothing more – but on THIS team he gets a lot more opportunity to play because – there is no one else TO play….
AdM asks, “why aren’t they sitting vs lefties”? Because there’s not consistent, high level production from the high-priced RHBs against LHP. Because of that, team’s are trying to minimize Burleson, Donovan and Gorman by pitching a lot of LH starters.
Teams are doing a great job minimizing these three, especially Burleson. He’s even worse against lefties than Gorman is…
Facing lefties is a dilemma. Do you feature hitters who don’t hit lefties, or do you feature hitters who don’t hit anyone?
We are clearly in a pickle. Not sure there’s any answers for this year. This roster is awkward at best. There’s enough minor league season left to see if Walkers upward trajectory continues. That would help a lot for next year if it does. Herrera has to be utilized. Goldy and Arenado have to go. I’m assuming we aren’t counting on Tommy Pham next year.

He’s certainly a better bench option than what we had this year. We need to be looking at guys who play every day. Not a roster full of platoon guys.
To keep Pham, they’d have to decide to spend more money on the bench in 2025.
Pham’s deal with the Sox topped at $5 million with incentives. That is about what Carpenter, Crawford and Carlson make this year combined. But hey, look at all the “leadership”…
Right now, Pham’s cost for next season will financially make much more sense than Goldschmidt and Arenado. The key is whether Burleson can cut it at 1B and one of the many internal options can at 3B. Hopefully, it’s Gorman. Both Burleson’s and Gorman’s compensation, next season, compared to Goldy’s and Arenado’s should help accommodate Pham’s salary and some more needed starting pitching help. Maybe even another outside outfield bat if Walker’s not ready.
I guess I haven’t been following as closely lately…is trading Arenado seeming like an actual thing, or is it just wishful thinking by fans? I think I’d just hold onto him unless someone was willing to offer a competitive deal.
Easy to offer incentives to a guy you have on a minors deal BW. Odds aren’t good he reaches them. 3mil when in mlb last season. Maybe that was pro-rated too?
