Oh really? You are saying the manager doesn’t get to select his roster.
The only way Marmol would take Siani over Burleson is if he needed a CF. And keep in mind, Marmol has a fabulous defensive CF at his disposal in Scott.I’m telling you, Marmol really respects Burleson as a hitter. Maybe as much as he does Edman and Nootbaar. IMO
OK. But you were speculating Burleson might not be on the OD roster. Right? Do you still stand by that?
KCB, I don’t think you have a clue as to how highly Oli regards Burleson as a hitter.
How do fans feel about Goldschmidt’s, Gorman’s and Winn’s ABs today? Burleson tends to be the “whipping boy” with too many Cardinals fans. They need to be more inclusive in their criticism.
wally, with Edman and Nootbaar out, it wouldn’t suprise me at all, if Burleson starts against LHP, too. Or they could go with Contreras and Herrera at C and DH or vice versa.
Carpenter has hit well in ST. But, I get the feeling Oli REALLY likes Burleson’s bat in the lineup against RHP.
Today’s lineup. Apparently, a lot of respect for Burleson’s hitting, right now. Contreras will probably be at #5 on opening day. Though, Burleson has outhit him this spring. One way or the other, it’s should be a respectable lineup.
1. Brendan Donovan (L) ~ LF
2. Paul Goldschmidt (R) ~ 1B
3. Nolan Gorman (L) ~ 2B
4. Nolan Arenado (R) ~ 3B
5. Alec Burleson (L) ~ DH
6. Ivan Herrera (R) ~ C
7. Jordan Walker (R) ~ RF
8. Dylan Carlson (S) ~ CF
9. Masyn Winn (R) ~ SSI don’t want any hassles. Differences of opinions on baseball, no biggie. But no personal animosity. Just Cardinals baseball talk. Go Burly and the Cardinals !
Brian and UConn Card, t8ball12, is messing with this wonderful forum. Set up, solely, for Cardinals baseball talk, not disruption. Please don’t let it happen.
t8ball12, you know all about taunting. Burleson just keeps hitting, consistently. Horton’s professional expertise just might be, right on.
bccran, not the way he’s hitting. Do you have better professional baseball credentials than Ricky Horton? Horton is very high on Burleson as an MLB hitter. As referenced in an earlier post.
BOCfan, who would be a better judge of MLB hitting potential, you or Ricky Horton? What kind of professional baseball background do you have? Just sayin’.
Quote from Horton about Burleson, “Man, can he hit!”. I believe Horton said, something to the effect, he feels, if Burleson is in the regular lineup over the course of the season, he could be a .290 BA, 20 home runs type hitter. If Burleson’s defense doesn’t hold up in LF, those numbers should be acceptable as a DH.
KCB. That’s taunting by speculation. And personal. Stick to Cardinals baseball discussion.
Another double by Burly this evening.
So why does Oli keep playing Burleson in LF? Is it because he just got extended? lol
Another profound post. How does this pertain to Cardinals baseball?
So, flip Saggese to 3B and Prieto to 2B. Saggese is more likely to have the desired corner infield power. Prieto would likely hit plenty good for a 2B.
The point of that lineup with the young offensive talent. If this team is still struggling by mid season. Maybe it would be time to trade some of the veteran position players for needed starting pitching.
This would be a pretty decent offensive lineup. Some good young talent in this organization.
1) Scott CF
2) Prieto 3B
3) Gorman 1B
4) Walker RF
5) Burleson DH
6) Saggese 2B
7) Herrera C
8) Carlson LF
9) Winn SSBurleson seems much more comfortable in LF this spring. Oli sure plays him there a lot.
Burleson does have some soft contact. But he also has his share of hard contact, as well. Much like many other hitters. He’s going to be fine. I’d just like more home runs from him. I think he can.
Over the years, I’ve been frustrated by the propensity that many Cardinals hitters have had for striking out. Striking out is a rarity with Burleson. As a Cardinals fan, I find that refreshing.
bccran. respectfully, you are nitpicking. Please let other posters simply express their opinions regarding Cardinals baseball. It doesn’t have to be so complicated. Simply put, let other posters simply have some fun discussing Cardinals baseball. Without making it complex. I hope the mods agree.
