I wasn’t happy about bringing in Miller. Gallegos was pitching well, and Miller is inconsistent. But, it worked. In the past two nights, every run that we have scored has been on HRs except the two set up last night by Wong on a single with a runner on first and double tonight to drive it in. He is 11 for 31 since the break with only one K.
The Reds are killing Milwaukee, 9-0 in the fifth. Cubs have a 1-0 lead over the Giants in the top of the first. Detroit and Philly are tied, 2-2 in the 7th.
Wouldn’t mind having at least one more run. Maybe, O’Neil will break out of his mini-slump ahead of Wieters, DeJong, and Wong.
I’m not thrilled with Munoz in center. He did manage to make O’Neil looked experienced last night. But, he was 0-3 with 3 Ks. Bader can do that and cover center, as well as most of left and right. Munoz has to hit to play.
We caught the perfect storm late last night. Reds win 6-5 with a two-run shot by Suarez in the top of the ninth, bringing their season series with Milwaukee to 7-7.. The Giants fell behind further with a walk, SB, and two-strike double by the Cubs in the top of the eighth, only to use a single and three doubles to score three in the bottom of the eighth to win 5-4. We get a grand slam by Goldy who had done nothing all night.
It worked out where we now are in the Wild Card, a half game over Milwaukee and the Phillies, both of whom have more road than home games left. Chicago has a lead on us, but they have played 54 at home to 46 in the road. We have played more on the road. Gives us a little advantage in making up the ground.
Suarez hit his second HR in the game, a two-run shot with two out in the top of the ninth. Now, 6-5 Reds.
Amazind. we win again on a grand slam and barely enough pitching. Shreve gets the win? Really?
Martinez has the same number of assists as errors, two. Last assist was against the Cubs.
Finally, we get a runner to third with nobody out,, and he SCORES. But, Ravelo looks horrible up here. I’m a bit surprised that we pinch hit for DeLeon after three. We must want this game.

We have four hitters at better than 200 and are winning! Some key HRs with runners on base have made all the difference. Example, Edman has one hit that generated an RBI, and it got four.316 2 2 Wieters (6 for 19)

Too bad. Those two doubles were the difference. When we were losing, we weren’t advancing runners, like we didn’t tonight. The past week or so, we have been moving runners around. Not tonight. That is the difference between playoff teams and also-rans. I don’t want to trade for pitchers. I want to move runners to second, third, and home. Simple things.
This time, Goldy flies out. Last time, it would have meant something. Frustrating that we get hits from everyone except the people who were to be our leaders. Carp, Molina, and Ozuna are out. Goldy and DeJong are in slumps. And, we have won six of eight. Need a strong ninth from O’Neil, Fowler, or Wong.
Goldy strikes out, strikes out, strikes out, strikes out. Then, just as you are ready to send him to Memphis, he hits a three-run HR. After the night you have begun with, you need at least a two-run double to make up for it tonight.

Ouch. Another DP. I think Wong has been the front runner in three DPs in about four games. Needs to wear armor and crash into the second baseman.
