MLB’s latest CBA proposal could change how teams manage the injured list.
Under the proposal:
10-day IL → 7 days for position players
15-day IL → 14 days for pitchers
60-day IL → 12 weeks (84 days)
That last one stands out.
Teams would gain some short-term flexibility, but…— Michaela Bennett (@MichaelaB_22) September 8, 2026
MLB and the MLBPA remain far apart on a salary cap. But an interesting dynamic is emerging in the proposals.
The MLBPA proposed allowing players 30+ with five years of service to reach free agency a year earlier.
MLB accepted the concept in principle.
The MLBPA proposed…

So let me get this straight. You want to look at won-loss records that are aggregates of six or seven affiliates totaling over 200 players when only 10 or 12 of them will eventually reach the majors.
That is not only ridiculous but is precisely the spreadsheet management that you ridicule.
Or do you mean MLB record? That is the aggregate of 35 or 40 players each year who range in age from 22 to 36. They were acquired in different ways over a 10 to 15 year period with wildly different payrolls across the 30 teams. Trying to connect that somehow to a farm system is a given year would be a fools errand.
And what about players developed here who were traded away? Etc. Etc.
It might be time to stop digging.

The #stlcards system was 3-1 on Sunday as Class-A teams closed their seasons. TCN’s Player of the Day, Memphis LH Mason Molina, went 6 IP with 9Ks. No, I can see your point. It is plain wrong. It would be like piloting a boat by following its wake. What systems did in the past is IRRELEVANT to the players of today.
It is very simple. Look at the potential of the players there NOW.
I cannot possibly disagree with you more. You have created your own way to rank farm systems that is unlike how the rest of the world does it.

I often wonder if Leahy would have received the chance to return to starting if they had better options at the time. We never know about injuries, but right now, I don’t see GG as the sixth or seventh best option to start. I like building a better pen, too.
bling, but again, you are looking at the Cardinals in a vacuum. By your definition, NO SYSTEMS can more effective than the Cardinals because NONE of the players have reached MLB yet.
You disparage those who rank farm systems as “wonks” with “spreadsheets” as if they don’t scout players and have many industry contacts.
But since you (and I) readily admit that we don’t know the other 29 systems well enough to rank them, why cannot we accept the word of those organizations who study farm systems as their business? They believe the Cardinals are one of the better systems in MLB. We all know that may or may not translate to 100 RBI success later on, or any other measure.
You can’t seem to allow yourself to accept a future indicator that is good because by definition it hasn’t happened yet. I see that as a shame.
That was my thought, too. Switch them. Have Hjerpe take the bulk innings and Leahy can throw a few innings afterward if he feels good enough to do so.

By next year it could start becoming a top system in real life land rather than just in wonk spreadsheet land. It does still remain to be seen what guys are going to look like when they pop up on the ML roster.
It is very true that prospects are just prospects until they are major leaguers. However, that is the case for EVERY system. All 30 are in the same boat.
So, the relevant question is, “Are the Cards better positioned than most systems?” not, “Do the Cards have a bunch of sure things?”
My point is that one must judge all systems equally. Or if not, please explain why other systems should be better ranked.
Of course, ranking the systems after the fact would be a much more exact process, but 100% hindsight isn’t the point.
As a recall, they moved him to the FCL, then a day or two later, they reversed the move and put him on the PB IL. That was on 8/10. My guess, and it is only a guess, is that they realized that he is injured and they can’t demote an injured player. Players are paid differently by level.
How do people feel about Hjerpe’s chances for the 2026 rotation after today?
The #stlcards system was 2-2 on Friday. TCN’s Player of the Day, Memphis RF Zach Levenson, hit two singles, a double, a homer, drove in five and scored three runs. Other standouts: Paige, Yerzy, McGee, Braden Davis, Holiday, Williamson and Henne. https://t.co/Sa1j7HJdUM pic.twitter.com/gxtAddbyxn
