From Ken Rosenthal:
“According to rival executives speaking anonymously to speak freely, the Cardinals’ asking prices are high, and there are concerns Herrera might not be a catcher long-term.”

Just one opinion there, but it is worth noting that none of the many Cardinals reportedly on the block are among the top 25 players apparently available across MLB.
Welcome to The Athletic’s MLB trade deadline Big Board, a collection of players who could move between now and Monday’s deadline.
This is the final installment of three Big Boards we’ve published.

The #stlcards system was 5-1 on Thursday. TCN’s Player of the Day, Memphis CF Joshua Báez, doubled twice and homered for four RBI. Other standouts: Deniel Ortiz, Jack Gurevitch, Andrew Dutkanych, Brayden Smith and Diego Conseción. https://t.co/jJHlZgLl4V pic.twitter.com/V5l9aID1nq

July 30, 2026 at 7:17 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #111 thread – Saturday, August 1 at Toronto Blue Jays #314621We don’t know yet. Marmol did not commit to any starter after Saturday.
A trade does make the most sense – but they will have to pull it off prior to Saturday’s first pitch, two days before the deadline.
July 30, 2026 at 4:13 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #109 thread – Thursday, July 30 vs. Chicago Cubs #314600O’Brien isn’t the most valuable player on the team, but if he departs, it may leave the biggest hole they could create. When they were winning with greater frequency, 7-8-9 with Soriano and Jo Jo ahead of him was working.
Who is going off the 40-man? New Scrabble?
July 30, 2026 at 4:04 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #109 thread – Thursday, July 30 vs. Chicago Cubs #314594I am tired of Bregman, Happ and PCA.

July 30, 2026 at 3:33 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #109 thread – Thursday, July 30 vs. Chicago Cubs #314580Speaking of new stats, Pallante’s xFIP of 3.99 coming into today is second-best on the staff after May at 3.89.
July 30, 2026 at 3:28 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #109 thread – Thursday, July 30 vs. Chicago Cubs #314577What is Game Score? Is that one of those new stats? 😉
Last time out, Pallante threw seven innings of shutout ball on two hits with eight Ks. Yes, he has been inconsistent, but his season ERA is one of the best in the rotation. In 2026, he has been better than almost anyone expected (including me).
Plenty of positives.
July 30, 2026 at 3:22 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #109 thread – Thursday, July 30 vs. Chicago Cubs #314575The inherited run scores with Soriano pitching. Without another comeback, Andre is on the line for a tough loss.
July 30, 2026 at 3:07 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #109 thread – Thursday, July 30 vs. Chicago Cubs #314570Another strong outing from Pallante. 6 1/3 IP, 1 run allowed with a runner on first base.

Gotta’ love Bowden. Right after he says it would be a mistake for the Cards to be sellers (see clip on the prior page), he talks about how the Cards and Mariners match up well for a trade – Herrera plus a reliever for one of Seattle’s starters.

First-place Double-A Springfield is on a six-game winning streak. #stlcards no. 1 prospect, catcher Rainiel Rodriguez, led Springfield in hits (nine) including three doubles and two home runs for a .429 batting average. The #stlcards system was 3-0 on Wednesday. TCN’s Players of the Day are the Palm Beach offense, which scored 19 runs on 29 hits. Yairo Padilla and Jonathan Mejía were both 3-for-6 with four RBI, with big games by Sebastian Dos Santos, Johnfrank Salazar and J.P. Cabrera. Other… pic.twitter.com/nfx7kaecXm

July 29, 2026 at 8:09 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #108 thread – Wednesday, July 29 vs. Chicago Cubs #314514So you think that other metrics have surpassed BA because of lower player BAs? That seems quite the stretch.
July 29, 2026 at 8:05 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #108 thread – Wednesday, July 29 vs. Chicago Cubs #314509May throws a one-hit shutout over five innings to finish what may be his final start as a Cardinal. Of course, the offense hasn’t scored yet, either, so he gets a no-decision.

Just looking at those offensive numbers tells you a lot. Even jj the whiz kid is only hitting 254
Baseball in 2026 is different from the game you are fond of.
There are only 4 batters in ALL of MLB hitting above .301.
