Realistically I expected this to be a loss…but to be right there all game without the ability to score a stinking run, then watch our bullpen ruin it…is a bit much. Hicks is one of the worst relievers on the team and his luck is bound to run out big time. Would like to see him get seasoning in the minors at some point this year.

Wow! Surprisingly nice D to hold Philly to just the 4-0 advantage. Game on!

That’s very optimistic view Pugs with the Phils up 4-0 in the 8th.

He has to go down at some point, stlcard25. I think you’re right….he could use a bit more seasoning at a lower level for a spell. But you have to love his upside. He’ll figure out soon how to put batters away more efficiently.

Hey BlackHills. I think we’re poised to tally some runs….maybe Fowler is the proverbial sleeping tiger who has just been rudely awoken.

It was only a matter of time before his ‘luck’ ran out. Yeah coming into the game he an ERA under 1.00 but his FIP was over 4 and his BB9 is still 6.44 with his SO9 only at 3.7. That’s not sustainable.

Base hit to left and our Birds are chirping here in the 8th….runners at 1st & 2nd with nary an out!

Hit DeJong squarely on the hand! Jack Nicholson he’s not. Call has to be reversed. And it is! Bases juiced with Birds…and nobody out.

MM should really take a clue from Kapler here in this inning. Kapler pulls his pitcher after 4 straight pitches realizing he doesn’t have it. MM would never do that.

Run scores on the Ozuna lame grounder…nearly a twin killing, but the ball hit a titch too slowly…thank God!

John Mabry has broken Marcel Ozuna.

Or was it Christian Yellich was just the better outfielder of the two?

Another poor at bat by Ozuna with the bases loaded. Maybe next year he’ll get it together when big $$ are at stake.

Now Fowler follows that up by grounding a slow one to first that results in the runner at 3rd being easily erased at home plate. Still 4-1, but 2 outs now….and you can literally hear a pin drop in the stadium now.

Gyorko base hit to left scores Ozuna…4-2 now as Philadelphia will seek some more relief from it’s pen.

Gyorko with the single brings up Carp with the chance to be a hero. ’13-16 Carp would break a pitcher’s heart by poking a two run double into the LF corner right here. Let’s hope that one shows up tonight.

Gyorko with a single to close the gap to 4-2.

Hicks is about like Rosenthal. Until he gets command he is an accident waiting to happen with all those walks.

I hear you, BlackHills! I thought the same thing the moment I first heard of the Ozuna acquisition…..why not Yelich??? He was ours for the taking at that time.

Yelich would have cost us Flaherty, Kelly, and probably at least one more prospect we wouldn’t have wanted to give up. Probably two. Not saying it may not have been an ok deal but it’s not like they could be had for equal value in a trade.

Pedro Florimon? You have to be kidding. That two-run homer off Brebbia pretty much sealed it.

Great start by Weaver wasted by poor hitting and relief.

Luke Weaver was excellent tonight. Pretty much everyone else stunk. You’re just not going to win many games scoring 2 runs.

Why, again, was our pen going to be a plus this year? They stink.

I never alluded to the fact the trade value would have been the same. However, Yellich is clearly the more consistent hitter. Ozuna had a history of being up and down.

    Before tonight:
    Yellich – 0.9 bWAR
    Ozuna – -0.2 bwar

Ozuna is technically below replacement level right now. Add that with Fowler’s bWAR and we have an outfield that’s not just garbage, it’s pig crap.

I don’t think so stcard25. We could have got Yelich for what we gave them for Ozuna. No way Flaherty would have had to be part of the equation….and no way the Cards part with Flaherty in that kind of a deal. I’ll have to look back to see who Milwaukee gave them for Yelich, but I don’t think it was hardly a kings ransom.
