For the Barnaby Jones special, Rat. Could be worse, UCONN…….you could be getting the Oriole-ChiSox game. Miles whiffs the side…..with a couple base knocks sandwiched in between.
Mark my words, this is the week where either Carpenter or Ozuna begin their hot streak…..and it’s going to be a doozy! Fowler? I’m not sure if Fowler has it in him any longer. His hot streak this year may consist of getting a hit in consecutive games while not committing any bone headed plays on the base paths or in the field.
Let us all remember that these Royals are not all that far removed from being World champions. And with that coveted distinction comes due respect and a certain degree of awe. These guys are not to be taken lightly. Just ask Detroit’s Tigers, who pranced into KC earlier this month and stumbled back out with just one victory and three setbacks. With this being said, I’m calling this one 9-1 Cards with Miles whacking one a mile and O’Neill doing likewise for his third dongaroo in as many games. Enjoy the live action, CardsRedSox4Ever!
Much to get excited about! In very short order, we could have the two livliest arms ( Flaherty & Reyes ) in the St. Louis rotation since Dizzy & Daffy Dean dazzled the Cardinal opposition. Let’s see Schwarber, Rizzo, Bryant & Baez try to hit those two runaway freight trains! And how about O’Neill. Righty,lefty, knuckleballer, sidearmer…who cares…you leave him in there for the rest of the year. Now get “The Rock” (Schrock) up here and the Brewers, Pirates and cubs can all battle it out for second place and a possible wild card slot.
Spoke earlier with a Phillie fanatic friend of mine from South Euclid, Ohio and he summed up his thoughts on today’s game with the words “Gant can’t “….when it comes to his chances of taming this high powered Philadelphia offense. I look for Ozuna to finally get off the schneid with a towering tater and for The Red Baron to give a good accounting of himself en route to a 7-6 Redbird squeaker.
Well…..here we go again! Looks like another unheralded young opposing pitcher who’ll most likely hurl the game of his life vs our Cardinals. The Redbirds fare better against the Arrietas of the world than they do vs these kind of guys. Pardon my language, but if Eflin efin shuts our lineup down….in our ballpark….I’ll throw a tizzy!
Wouldn’t you just love to be the fan who caught Pena’s triple that gave him the cycle? Ah! Pena whiffs, but oh what a night he has had! Getting 3/4’s of the cycle is always no minor feat. Who knows, the way our Birds are hitting tonight, he just may get one morevshot at it.
Now Wong puts his teeth into one and that baby is long gone to right!!!! The crowd is hushed as Pena confidently strolls to the dish in search of that ever elusive triple, thus giving him the even more ever elusive cycle…..let’s watch shall we.

Sweet! O’Neil trots out to left. This kid WILL hit in this league. I’m not going to be content though until I see Schrock take up his rightful position on this team as their starting 2nd baseman.
I’d give my left….my left pinkie to see Pena drill a 3-bagger giving him that elusive cycle. Wonder who the last Cardinal to hit for the cycle was?
7-2 Birds on the smoking red hot Carpenter single to right, plating Pham! Now Jose Martinez ralphs one out of here!! 9-2 Cards!! And this may be time for our skipper to call off the dogs!
Wacha with another nice outing thus far….6-2 Birds veering towards the bottom of the 6th. If we get Carlos and Reyes dealing soon, along with Miles, Wacha and Weaver. And if Marcell and Dexter can start getting cozy with the Mendoza Line, the sky is the limit for this team!
Pena plants one wayyy up into the pillars in left!! Just a triple shy of the cycle. He’s on a torrid streak!
Speaking of dogs, we are thinking of getting another white German Shepherd soon. I’ve had this same type of dog for the past 25 years….all with regal names such as Duke, Baron and Prince. I’m thinking of going with Jorge ( pronounced “Hor-Hay”) for my next one. Any suggestions?
Surprise surprise! Marcell (0-2) wearing the collar yet once again. We could be leading 18-0 And he’d still be hitless. I’m going to start referring to my white German Shepherd’s collar as a “Marcell”…..now he does coax a walk in this at bat though.
You out there Cardinals2016? 5-0 in the 4th and looking for more. We may have to evoke the Mercy Rule before this one is over.
Wow! Next to Maxvill, Julian would have been my last guess, Rat. I bet a dog and coke could be had for under $2 back then.
Let me look into my crystal ball….I see Logan with a big 40th birthday coming soon. I predict January 23rd. Francisco Pena with a ringing double! This fellow can hit! Yadi who???
Gotta love how some umps get a little extra animated on their calls on the real nice defensive plays. That 1st base ump really gave his out call some extra pizzazz on the nice play by Wong to end the Phillie 4th.
Brings back very fond memories, Euro! 4-0 Cards now. But that darn rain troubles me. Sure would hate to see this one washed away with the nice lead. Even Dexter reaches base in this productive inning…via walk. If I’m Philadelphia, I yank the pitcher immediately after Fowler reaches base. Matter of fact, I shouldn’t say this too loud, but that just may serve all opposing teams well. What a great barometer to indicate that your pitcher has had it. It shouldn’t matter who the pitcher is or what part of the game it’s in. If Fowler gets on base….you immediately yank your pitcher.
Indeed Euro. Those West coast games were brutal for getting the quick results. The only good thing about them was that we here in Wisconsin could actually listen to the entire game on the radio because of the late start….which back then was quite a treat. KMOX was impossible to listen to while it was light out. So, for most games, it wasn’t until about the 3rd inning or so, until you could actually start deciphering some of the action. The later at night it became the better reception you would receive. I vividly recall as a child wildly contorting the radio in different angles to find The best spot to hear the Cardinal games. The bad part was that once you did find that sweet spot, it would only last a few minutes and then you’d have to start the whole radio maneuvering bit all over again. So those West coast games were beautiful in that you could easily listen to the entire game with little interference.
