12 consecutive complete games by Detroit in ’68. Amazing stat…thanks Euro! No wonder those guys beat us that year.
5 game series at Wrigley…thanks for the info, Booyah! That’s sweet…a 5 game sweep in their yard…hopefully that will set them back another 105 years again.
Bring on the cubbies at Wrigley! Anyone know when our next trip there is? I will not rest until we sweep them there too….no rest at all!
Let us not forget Francisco Pena and the dandy job he did behind the plate this evening. I think we have found our #2 catcher for the remainder of this year.
CMart, Reyes, Flaherty, Mikolas, Wacha with Weaver waiting in the wings. Wow! That is potentially the closest starting rotation to what Houston trots out onto the field. Has to be a Cards-Astros World Series. If not this year then certainly next. I think it’ll be kind of on par to the frenzied anticipation of an Ali-Frazier fight.
Could be Euro. Wonder what pitchers with what team were the last to throw 3 consecutive complete games in a 3 game series?
Geesh O’Neill has a sweet stroke. Not as splendid as JD Drew, but pretty darn nice….even when he Whiffs such as he did in this at bat. 6-0 Good Guys as we mozzy along to the 8th.
Right on BW!
Yep, Leone is destined for the 60 day.
Was just thinking about some 100 yard dash competitions that would be neat to see.
Now Carpenter goes yard!!
How about Yadi (when not injured) vs a nearly 60 year old Vince Coleman. I’d still go with Vince
Or how about Jose Oquendo vs. Joe Buck? Buck is skinny but I bet slow as molasses.Love your line of thinking, BlackHills! Lets 60 day Leone.
Garagiola or Johnny?
This could be fun
Kid Kelly does appear to be a bit of a Bulldog, Euro, so it could end up being a happening thing. Garcia now leaving with an injury. Let us hope its not of a serious nature. Any Schrock sightings yet?
Pena has turned out to be a very adequate receiver in Yadi’s absence. I think Kelly’s future may be as a pitcher.
Be careful Martinez…..he almost came off the bag too early on that groundout. Soler becomes Miles’ 7th K victim.
Enshrine the kid, Rat!! Cooperstown here he comes.
Ozuna finally seeing the ball….2-2 with a walk. Up strolls Mr. O’Neill…….lines a shot fair down the left field line! Ozuna rounds 3rd and he’ll score on the O’Neill double…5-0!
Any baseball card or coin collectors with us this evening?
Oh for a long one here by Miles! But he whiffs. Pham up with 2 down and nobody occupying a base. Tommy goes down on strikes as well. 4-0 Birds thru 4 complete. I don’t see a lot of innings in Ian’s immediate future though, as he has now hurled 83 pitches.
Not impressed with this Merrifield so far. First the botched pop fly and now ……check out his lame slide into 2nd on the inning ending DP.
Looks like Merrifield lost that little popup in the….hmmmm….wasn’t the sun……wasn’t the lights…wasn’t interfered with by another player…..by George I think he just plain lost it.
In our nation’s capitol, our old pal Mark Reynolds is 3-4 with a couple dingers, as his Nationals are having their way with San Diego this evening by the score of 10-2 in the top of the 8th. Carpenter single followed by a Martinez base rap brings Marcell to the dish with 2 outs…..stay tuned….base hit to right!! Carp scores as Jorge bobbles the ball allowing runners to move up to 2nd & 3rd. O’Neill at the plate…..skies one deep to right!!!! Soler looks up but can only look in wonderment as that baby is long gone!!!
Looks like Dexter nearly got bopped with that wicked Moustakas liner into the Cardinal dugout……not Fowler!…….anyone but Dexter!
Oh oh! Back to back opening inning singles by KC. Now just what the St. Louis doctor ordered.,….the 5-4-3 twin killing!
Ian Kennedy flashing a little speed on his base hit to right. Love to see Ian in a footrace against Vince Coleman in his prime.
If you don’t like Francisco Pena then you flat out don’t like baseball…..coming off a couple 3 hit games vs Philly….ooops whiffs here, but Francisco will live to see another at bat….that you can bet the house on!
Martinez lines out to 1st….didn’t get a hit, but he can downright hit!
Always loved Salvador Perez. Think they would entertain an offer of Fowler, Ozuna, Wong, Bowman and Holland for him. Only joshing of course, but unloading those contracts would be a dream come true. Carp with a 1 out 2-bagger!
