Wong with a sac bunt, Garcia with a sac fly and Fowler scores. 4-1 Cardinals after 6.

I love good fundamental baseball. Hit by Fowler, SB, sacrifice bunt, sacrifice fly.

Yes, O’Neill should be playing instead of Ozuna

Cards actually manufacture a run – Fowler steals 2nd, Wong bunts him to 3rd, Garcia sac fly to left. Need to see more of that.

Is Flaherty trying to match Reyes’ performance last night?

I mean he’s almost been unhittable minus the Hoskins homer.

Matheny had no one warming up. So Jack was out there until he got into real trouble.

Matheny having Flaherty bat in the bottom of seventh at 106 pitches. I wonder if the shaky pen is one reason.

No worries guys…Matheny has got this. Flaherty will bat for himself in the 7th and go back in to start the 8th with 105 pitches. Wonder if Norris is available after getting 4 outs yesterday?

Carpenter was an inch away from a 4 hit day.

Carpenter with his second double of the day, scores on JMart’s single. 5-1

O’Neill follows up with a single of his own, moving JMart to second.

Oh trust me it’s on his mind.

So Hicks could’ve gone another inning yesterday?

It worked to stretch Flaherty out. Hicks comes in to get the last out of the 8th, and he will likely pitch the 9th.

So he warms up Mayers to do nothing?

McCarver and/or McLaughlin openly speculated that perhaps Matheny should’ve gone another inning with Hicks instead of Holland in the 8th, because Hicks had thrown just 12 pitches.

So Hicks is a 105-mph-pitch-to-contact type of pitcher.

Cards earn the split with a 5-1 victory. Flaherty gets his 1st MLB win. St. Louis is now 25-19.

I guess he didn’t like seeing Chapman atop the leader board for fastest pitch this year…

If those numbers hold up, they are the five fastest pitches of the season

Much to get excited about! In very short order, we could have the two livliest arms ( Flaherty & Reyes ) in the St. Louis rotation since Dizzy & Daffy Dean dazzled the Cardinal opposition. Let’s see Schwarber, Rizzo, Bryant & Baez try to hit those two runaway freight trains! And how about O’Neill. Righty, lefty, knuckleballer, sidearmer…who cares…you leave him in there for the rest of the year. Now get “The Rock” (Schrock) up here and the Brewers, Pirates and cubs can all battle it out for second place and a possible wild card slot.
