Wong with a sac bunt, Garcia with a sac fly and Fowler scores. 4-1 Cardinals after 6.
May 20, 2018 at 3:15 pm #53363I love good fundamental baseball. Hit by Fowler, SB, sacrifice bunt, sacrifice fly.
May 20, 2018 at 3:15 pm #53364Yes, O’Neill should be playing instead of Ozuna
May 20, 2018 at 3:16 pm #53365Cards actually manufacture a run – Fowler steals 2nd, Wong bunts him to 3rd, Garcia sac fly to left. Need to see more of that.
May 20, 2018 at 3:20 pm #53366Is Flaherty trying to match Reyes’ performance last night?
May 20, 2018 at 3:24 pm #53368I mean he’s almost been unhittable minus the Hoskins homer.
Matheny had no one warming up. So Jack was out there until he got into real trouble.
May 20, 2018 at 3:27 pm #53370Matheny having Flaherty bat in the bottom of seventh at 106 pitches. I wonder if the shaky pen is one reason.
May 20, 2018 at 3:28 pm #53371No worries guys…Matheny has got this. Flaherty will bat for himself in the 7th and go back in to start the 8th with 105 pitches. Wonder if Norris is available after getting 4 outs yesterday?
May 20, 2018 at 3:29 pm #53372Carpenter was an inch away from a 4 hit day.
May 20, 2018 at 3:33 pm #53375Carpenter with his second double of the day, scores on JMart’s single. 5-1
O’Neill follows up with a single of his own, moving JMart to second.
May 20, 2018 at 3:38 pm #53377No worries guys…Matheny has got this. Flaherty will bat for himself in the 7th and go back in to start the 8th with 105 pitches. Wonder if Norris is available after getting 4 outs yesterday?
Oh trust me it’s on his mind.
May 20, 2018 at 3:43 pm #53379lol! Hicks has joined Meyers in the pen.
May 20, 2018 at 3:45 pm #53380NJ315
ParticipantGood call Matheny. 120 pitches.
May 20, 2018 at 3:52 pm #53381So Hicks could’ve gone another inning yesterday?
May 20, 2018 at 3:53 pm #53382It worked to stretch Flaherty out. Hicks comes in to get the last out of the 8th, and he will likely pitch the 9th.
May 20, 2018 at 3:56 pm #53383So he warms up Mayers to do nothing?
May 20, 2018 at 3:58 pm #53384So Hicks could’ve gone another inning yesterday?
McCarver and/or McLaughlin openly speculated that perhaps Matheny should’ve gone another inning with Hicks instead of Holland in the 8th, because Hicks had thrown just 12 pitches.
May 20, 2018 at 4:09 pm #53385So Hicks is a 105-mph-pitch-to-contact type of pitcher.
May 20, 2018 at 4:11 pm #53386Cards earn the split with a 5-1 victory. Flaherty gets his 1st MLB win. St. Louis is now 25-19.
May 20, 2018 at 4:12 pm #53387I guess he didn’t like seeing Chapman atop the leader board for fastest pitch this year…
May 20, 2018 at 4:15 pm #53388Jordan Hicks' five pitches to Herrera according to Statcast:
104.2 mph sinker
105 mph sinker
104.3 mph sinker
105 mph sinker
103.7 mph sinker#stlcards #cardinals #MLB— Derrick Goold (@dgoold) May 20, 2018
May 20, 2018 at 4:50 pm #53389If those numbers hold up, they are the five fastest pitches of the season
May 20, 2018 at 4:53 pm #53392Hat tip to Mr. Flaherty and Mr. Hicks. Outstanding game.
May 20, 2018 at 5:31 pm #53393O`Neill with 3 hits today including a HR.The kid is definately making a case for continued playing time. Now just get Fowler out of town someway.
May 20, 2018 at 5:47 pm #53395Much to get excited about! In very short order, we could have the two livliest arms ( Flaherty & Reyes ) in the St. Louis rotation since Dizzy & Daffy Dean dazzled the Cardinal opposition. Let’s see Schwarber, Rizzo, Bryant & Baez try to hit those two runaway freight trains! And how about O’Neill. Righty, lefty, knuckleballer, sidearmer…who cares…you leave him in there for the rest of the year. Now get “The Rock” (Schrock) up here and the Brewers, Pirates and cubs can all battle it out for second place and a possible wild card slot.
