Certainly our offense was weak particularly in September but Weatherholt missed most of the month. Walker, Burleson and Winn were hurting.
Who decided to let them try to play through injuries. I would think that even if the player is trying to hide the injury to keep playing the modern metrics such as bat speed and exit velocity should make it pretty easy to tell that a player was less than sound. The decision to keep playing Weatherholt probably cost him the Rookie of the Year and a n extra Cardinal draft pick.
One of the bigget Cardinal problems we have is that we do not have a big home run team in a ballpark that is tough to hit home runs. Let’s move the fences a bit before our big hitters such as Rodriguez and Jesus Baez arive.
I am not siding with Brown but Three hitting coaches not succesful is a bad trend. With the obvios imrovement in hitting during the minor league season we should have several qualified hitting coaches already in the system. But I suspect Ollie and Bloom have someone in mind and I would not be suprised to see an announcement after the world series is over.

ParticipantInstead of moving fences in, maybe tailor the team to fit the park. Far as the coach goes, we were near bottom in team hitting so it makes sense.
October 27, 2026 at 8:11 am #321865Much like our manager, I have never been impressed with most of our coaches. I realize they don’t have to have a big league history or pedigree, but the question to me is that we are being cheap with hiring less experienced coaching. I think our coaches should command respect. McGee is the only one who does that IMO.
October 27, 2026 at 9:49 am #321869I wonder how much Brant Brown and Jordan Walker’s dynamic fit into this. Brown had publicly criticized Walker in the past for his work ethic and general coachability. If Jordan’s breakout this year was attributable to Brown’s coaching, I think it would be hard to justify firing him, even with the poor offensive performance from the rest of the team. This is just speculation, but perhaps what happened is that Walker continued to push back on Brown’s approach and his breakout was actually in spite of, and not a result of, Brown’s coaching. If that was the case, that would have given the brass a clear cut reason for parting ways with Brown.

October 27, 2026 at 11:08 am #321880I wouldn’t be surprised if the Cardinals promote from within for hitting coach.

This is what we should do. I know average isn’t important to a lot of people these days. But maybe for us it should be. Winn and Church both could be really dynamic pieces in our offense if they could take some lessons from a couple of the Brewers players.
