Ragsdale drew 80+ walks, obp of .418, stole 37 bases in 40 attempts. He has speed, plays good defense. He just seems further along than others. Having played his first full year I am not worried what he did at Springfield. Just not a big enough sample size. I can see him as a great lead off type. Granted, as I stated earlier there are a lot of prospects that I have very closely ranked. Peete might be considered, but he did not play a full season. Fajardo played just a few games at AA. Roby has his checkered injury history, but has the best all around stuff and control imo.

The prospect I think should be ranked lower is Hjerpe. But it looks like he’ll be our #7 at this point. I am unsure he has the control to be a starter.

Pugs I was just going to call you to remind you to make your selection.

Yep, the show must go on. I knew you guys wouldn’t close out the voting until I weighed in. Thanks NyQuist!

Yeah this is a very tight group of prospects with everyone who has received votes here at #7, as well as Alexander Frias, but Hjerpe is towards the bottom of that group for me. The injury obviously messed with his development, but the Cooper Hjerpe that we saw in the majors last year didn’t make me believe he’s going to win a rotation job out of spring training and I feel like he could take the Graceffo route and just turn into a solid reliever. I think he still has end of the rotation potential, and he gets a boost for proximity to the majors, but I’d much rather have seen Fajardo, Condon, Dos Santos, Baez, or even Cijntje here at #7

Since I’ve got a meeting at 1, I’m going to call this one a little bit early. Your TCN Community 2027 #7 prospect is Cooper Hjerpe, LHP. With the wide variety of votes, I’m sure there will be quibbles, but that’s the way the vote goes sometimes. Congrats to Mr Hjerpe.

    1. Rainiel Rodriguez, C
    2. Quinn Mathews, LHP
    3. Liam Doyle, LHP
    4. Leo Bernal, C
    5. Joshua Baez, OF
    6. Tanner Franklin, RHP
    7. Cooper Hjerpe, LHP

Voting is now open for the #8 prospect. Voting will close at 12 PM CT/1 PM ET on Wednesday, October 21st.

For the first time ever in this vote, I think I’ve changed my mind. Earlier this year I talked up Jesus Baez and his 39 homers. I’ll take Baez over Ragsdale.

This list is fascinating so far. Talk about a farm system with depth! I have 10 Redbirds as top 100 overall prospects; 5 of them are already on the list, but the other 5 have received little or no support. I think Fajardo throws more than fahard enough to be a number 1/2 starter, but I still lean toward a position player at this point.

In the most recent rankings, centerfielder Alexander Frias is top 50 at Fangraphs and top 70 for Keith Law — but he was decisively out-hit on his own Palm Beach team by fellow 18-year-olds Miguel Hernandez and Sebastian Dos Santos. Since the latter has the best defensive projection, I’ll take him here. And even if he has to move to the hot corner, then we’d have Two Santos at third base, and that couldn’t be bad. 😉

Sebastian Dos Santos at #8, please.

I’m going with Jurrangelo Cijntje again at #8. He was pretty good in Memphis despite some not great batted ball luck. The 3.57 xERA and 3.22 FIP both show a guy who got more comfortable as the season went on. In fact, after a couple of rough outings to start at AAA and a wild one, he settled in nicely at the highest level of the minors. 2.95 ERA, 48 strikeouts against 14 walks in 39-2/3 IP for a 21% K-BB rate. I think he gets a very good shot to help the rotation next year if he starts out that well again at Memphis.

I’m sticking with Yhoiker Fajardo at #8, but there are so many great options here, definitely would not complain about Jesus Baez, Trevor Condon, Sebastian Dos Santos, or even Jurrangelo Cijntje and Tai Peete who I feel like haven’t gotten enough love just yet.

Bob, on Dos Santos, do you push back on MLB.com’s evaluation where they have him as a 45 grade fielder. I’ve always assumed the SS who was given a 45 grade and has played about 40% of his innings away from the shortstop position isn’t likely to stick at SS or would be a below average defender at the position. My dream for him was basically to follow Wetherholt’s path where he ends up an above average defender, just not at SS. But it seems like you are much higher on his defense and projection at SS, and I’d love to get there as well. I’m really high on Fajardo (and Baez) but I’m really looking at Dos Santos coming up soon if you’re right about the defense.

Any sane mind would concur that Bobby Reed is an astute baseball man. How he’s not sitting in an MLB front office is one of those mysteries that may never be solved…….or maybe just maybe he is.

I’m not ready to cast my vote yet.

My next five are Cijntje, Fajardo, Kuhns, Baez, Condon. I would be happy going with any of the three pitchers next. I wish I had a better feel for what Baez’s D might look like at the MLB level. Projecting somebody for the left side is iffy. Everybody has an opinion, but all seen through moonshot colored glasses. Condon is all draft cred. No idea what we’ll have when he grows up. He hit the ground running though, so it could be interesting. I do appreciate Bob Reed being the kindergarten cop talking up the young standouts because otherwise I would surely overlook them. I am considering moving Dos Santas in after the three pitchers on my list.

Jesus Baez is the only Cardinal I have booed in a long time. I heckled and booed him with vigor and passion. He doesn’t run out ground balls. He refuses to hustle back if he pops the ball up; he rounds first…trots towards second and slow walks it back to the dug out. He takes it into the field and stands at SS…note the lack of anticipation, ready position, and explosion. Forget about leading the infield and communicating with teammates. This is his paradigm he operates from. This isn’t me pointing a couple events, but I could because they are so outrageous. It’s every game and it’s the entire game.
He has incredibly quick hands and unbelievable hand/eye skills. I love 40 HRs and the ability to hit that ball.
You just need to know who you are voting for. The ingame experience with Baez tells you why the broadcasters made comments on the Milb tv last year.
