Despite his numbers, I have received strong reports from scouts on Woodford this year. He is more of a starter than reliever, depending on who you talk to. Probably No. 4 starter is his ceiling. His fastball has been up to 96. Doesn’t have a true outpitch which explains part of his struggles but his cutter could be a real weapon. Curveball and changeup have a chance to be average. Just needs to tighten up the command of his secondary pitches.
I will also add the 2016 international class has been a disappointment to say the least, especially Oviedo. Excited to see what Victor Garcia can do in his first season stateside, though. Carlos Soler was another one I liked from that class as well.
If he was healthy, Gingery could have been a first round pick, according to some publications. That’s why I ranked him at No. 30 right off the bat.
Just got word Greene and Ellis were replaced by guys from other teams, so Springfield will have five representatives tomorrow.
The All-Star game is slated for tomorrow night. Yeison Medina and Ramon Santos take the spots of Woodford and Jones. Roster replacement for Ellis and Greene have yet to be announced.
Interesting to note Starlin Balbuena is listed as a pitcher for the GCL Cards now. He struggled offensively with JC last year in his first season outside the complex. I recall talking to several Cardinal official who said he has a 60 arm as a middle infielder. Someone worth watching as a concerted pitcher.
I apologize. I meant to type GCL. All three will start in the GCL and Baker is recovering from a broken leg, yes.
Baker told reporters yesterday he hopes to be ready to play by July. He will at Peoria with Roberts and Gil.
Jose Martinez is expected to go on paternity leave this weekend and Voit will be back with the club on Friday. Memphis is playing in Albuquerque, New Mexico so that’s why he was sent to Springfield.
Speaking of that, the 38th round pick Jaden Hill, who could be a first rounder by 2021, tweeted that he is fulfilling his commitment to LSU. The chances of signing him was slim to none, either way.
Gorman is headed to Johnson City, for sure. My guess is Peoria for Roberts. I’ll hold off on Baker and Gingery until next spring. Other guesses: Gil to GCL and rest of the college draftees in the first 10 rounds either at SC or JC.
Baron cleared waivers and is headed back to Memphis, so that means Knizner is likey going back to Springfield.

Austin Warner continues to thrive with @GoPBCardinals, tossing seven shutout innings tonight. He now has a 2.51 ERA over nine starts this season, including a 57-to-5 K/BB through 57 1/3 IP. Not bad for the former @rcrascals product.

The better question becomes – who is the next No. 1 prospect after Flaherty and Reyes graduate from the rankings?
