Carlson is batting seventh and playing right field tonight for the National League squad in the Futures Game. Gorman is listed as a reserve. In other news, Trejyn Fletcher has been promoted to Johnson City.
Williams back to the DL for the third time this season. After a game like last night, it’s been a frustrating year, to say the least for him. Same with Schrock.
My guess on Oviedo’s early departure was due to a high pitch count. It took him 50 pitches to get through two innings and he had already issued three walks.
Zac Gallen along with Sandy Alcantara, and Magneuris Sierra were the three players acquired in the trade that sent Marcell Ozuna to St Louis. Gallen's first career start will come against the Cardinals tomorrow.

Last I heard about Derian Gonzalez, he had a significant elbow injury last summer and would be out for some time. My guess would be he ultimately had surgery.
Pretty much the same guy as last year, according to scouts. Fastball command is good. Average fastball, though. Plus changeup. Fringy curveball. Stuff plays best against right-handed hitters because his breaking ball is not of the wipeout variety needed against lefties. He projects as an up and down type. Still, he has had an impressive career for someone that went undrafted and played Indy Ball.
Montero has hit the DL once again. No word on if he re-aggravated the wrist or if it is a different injury.
Always been a strike-thrower. He gained four to five mph on his fastball as he made the move to the bullpen last year. I’ve seen him hit as high as 94 in Springfield. Interesting one to watch if the results continue.
It turns out Diego is the nephew of former major league reliever Francisco Cordero. When Diego signed with the Cardinals in 2014, he was said to touch high-80 with a solid breaking ball for a 17-year old lefty and obviously had plenty of room to add weight to his skinny 6-foot-3, 165-pound frame.
Now, Cordero sits in the 88-90 mph, topping at 92. He also has a changeup at 78-80, but his curveball is his best pitch at 70-74 mph.
Here’s what his manager said about Cordero from last year:
“He’s just a very intelligent young man that has a way of controlling and then getting back into counts,” 2018 manager Joe Kruzel said. “He’s been pitching extremely well. He mixes speeds well, he utilizes his secondary pitches at good times, he’s able to locate his fastball when he needs to and, at the same time, he’s able to get quick outs too.”

“There’s a pretty good chance he ends up in High-A in the near future,” Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said. “Then he’s a step away from Double-A and a step away from the big leagues. The timeline is TBD, but he’s certainly been on the fast track.”
My guess would be because he hasn’t pitched in nine days, so he essentially skipped two times through the rotation.
Fernandez was promoted to Springfield today despite control still being a glaring issue. At this point, though, Springfield needs all the reinforcements they can get.

Cruz’s stuff plays best as a reliever. He misses bats with a mid-90s fastball, slider and changeup. He’s pretty interesting.
Regarding Kruczynski, I have seen two of his starts. The stuff has backed up from last year. His velocity has been down. He has been anywhere from 86-89 mph and he is not filling up the strike zone enough. At his best, he is a strike-thrower with four quality pitches (low-90s fastball, curveball, change, and slider).
On a side note, Montero has impressed me despite his early numbers. The ball sounds “different” off his bat.
