Futures Game at 6 p.m. CT on MLB Network and streaming at MLB.com. Nolan Gorman and Dylan Carlson are on the NL team.
Carlson is batting seventh and playing right field tonight for the National League squad in the Futures Game. Gorman is listed as a reserve. In other news, Trejyn Fletcher has been promoted to Johnson City.
Went back and watched MILB replays of Fernandez pitching, He throws 96-98 with run, a plus change up, and good slider. There were a lot of weak swings. When the time comes, he will make a very good addition to the Cardinals bullpen.
On the live side, Cabrera gave up a walk single, and a homer to Iowa team. Considering this is a lot of firsts for him, first MLB appearance, first AAA assignment. I think we will see improvement by next year, if not sooner.
I’ll just say that’s a very interesting gambit, promoting an 18-year-old who is striking out twice a game at his current level, and leave it at that.
Never mind. I can’t quite leave it. If someone were going to be promoted from the GCL to the Appy League so early in the season, it feels like the 19-year-old with more walks than strikeouts who’s hitting .423/.531/.692 would be the one. (Not that Franklin Soto is the better prospect by any means. But he looks like the one who currently requires the challenge of a better league.)
