Well I did well on that last segment, so let’s keep it going.
11. Mercado – Did he just have a good segment or did he finally click in? I’m going with the cream has risen to the top.
12. Junior Fernandez – Not his best season for development, but I’m cutting him some slack.
13. Ryan Helsley – I’ve liked Helsley from the get go and he’s done nothing to diminish my faith in his talent. He keeps achieving with the talent he has.
14. Jose Adolis Garcia – Bouncing back and forth from AA to AAA did not throw off his game, except for the power numbers. I think he will step up and excel in Memphis next season.
15. Andrew Knizner – What a jump in growth his game took on this year. Impressive and against the odds.
How lucky were the fan in Springfield to watch a team with an outfield of Sierra, Mercado, J. Garcia, Randy Arozarena and Anthony Garcia. Randy was actually at the top of my list for a long time, but he struggled down the stretch. The fans in Memphis may be in for an even better season in 2018.

15 MercadoSeptember 23, 2017 at 11:38 am #33864Mercado has 5 years in the minors, of that all but 3 months has been sub .700 OPS – Including the last 3 months. Does that 3 month period really overcome 4.5 years of offensive mediocrity?
September 23, 2017 at 11:47 am #33867I do agree with you on Oscar, CC. Keep in mind, though, he is only 22 years old. I have him in my top 25.
September 23, 2017 at 12:21 pm #33878He’s probably around 25 for me also but this high? I don’t get it. But to each his own.
Good point about his age though. I commented earlier that I would not protect him from the rule 5 draft but that was a little harsh. I would probably would.
September 24, 2017 at 9:53 pm #34052Mercado was going great before his injury (I think he was leading the team in average with modest power) really struggled when he returned but seemed to finish stronger. One of the keys to me is that he always was used in center field even with Sierra, Arozarena and Adolis Garcia around.
I agree what a pleasure it was to watch both Sringfield and Memphis. I had to use the internet but both teams were exciting with exciting prospects on both offense and defense. I think spring training is going to be something in 18. Hope I get down there again.
One player I don’t want to fall between the cracks is Machado who had a very good GCL season.

ParticipantWhen looking at the rotation over the next few years, we have –
Waino – signed through 2018
Martinez – under control through 2023
Wacha – under control through 2019
Reyes – under control through 2023
Weaver – under control through 2022
Hudson – under control through at least 2023
Flaherty – under control through 2023.Alcantara with his triple digit fastball and Gallen with his mid to high 90s fastball have already been included in the top 10 on this list.
Kind of sets the stage for futurev discussions on who’s got the high ceiling or high floor to break out of the pack in the future among Gant, Poncedeleon, Pearce, Helsley, Woodford, Jones, Fernandez, Hicks, O’Reilly, Oxnevad, Castano, Oviedo, Seijas, etc.
Should be interesting discussions over the next few weeks/months.

ParticipantMachado had a terrific year at GCL-Cards. I haven’t overlooked him at all. MLB has him @ #22. His name will be popping up here soon. There are some other prospects at the lower level Johnson City that have been on my radar screen Chase Pinder, Wadye Ynfante and Luis Bandes . Ynfante was injured on 8/14 but was having a great August. Then there’s Bandes who led the APPL in RBIs and although it was his 2nd season at JC and his 4th pro season, he is still only 21. He is the one who may be overlooked.

ParticipantWaiting on desmetlax12 to finish out the vote!
September 25, 2017 at 11:22 am #34097Pads could you provide a current vote total for this round?
September 25, 2017 at 1:09 pm #34105PadsFS
ParticipantCurrently, Garcia and Hicks are in the lead with 28, Knizner and Helsley have 27, and Arozarena has 26. I’ll break the ties with the total amount of votes for a player so Garcia is leading Hicks and Knizner is leading Arozarena. Maybe desmetlax will break the ties.
September 25, 2017 at 1:50 pm #34110Thanks for waiting!

ParticipantMy vote for #16-20 is:
#16 – Delvin Perez
#17 – Junior Fernandez
#18 – Jake Woodford
#19 – Alvaro Seijas
#20 – Johan OviedoSeptember 25, 2017 at 2:03 pm #34116PadsFS

I still like them both.
September 25, 2017 at 2:32 pm #34123bccran
ParticipantInteresting – not one infielder in the Top 15.
And the only one mentioned so far in #16-20 is a very young 18 year old player who put up .203/.314/.271/.585 in 2017.
September 25, 2017 at 3:21 pm #3413316 – Perez
17 – Woodford
18 – Seferina (still like the triples!)

17. Fernandez
18. Woodford
19. Carson
20. Alvarez….oops we traded him for a guy who didnt help us get into the playoffs. Guess iy is Sosa then.September 25, 2017 at 3:48 pm #3413916. Carlson — same reasons voted him 15…he could shoot up this list pretty far next year. Next year being 19 at high a gets a ton of leeway from lower stats in a horrible hitters park.
17. Fernandez — Gets downgraded a lot because his stats arent as good. He was 20 at high a. Electric stuff. If he finds a third pitch could be a top 50 guy in two years. Potentially next year’s flaherty.
18. Sosa — as I pointed out in the last five he had an ops higher than league average with above average defense — from a shortstop who is age appropriate (read: young for league). More than good enough for top 20.
19. Delvin perez — gotta put him somewhere. Still think this is too high but… Potential is a strange bird. Nothing … Then something. Hope his head is in the right place because he aint shown anything.
20. Sam tewes — because someone has to be the first to bring up a big college arm on a tommy john rehab year that charged higher through the system. We flat stole him in round 8. Probably early for him but so what (Just felt like throwing a curve.. Actually had other names first. Dont care lol).
September 25, 2017 at 3:51 pm #34140#16 – Edmundo Sosa
