Does anyone think Baez could perhaps profit from a little more time in AAA? Say, finish out the season down there? On the other hand we’ve brought up Gorman to agitate the oxygen molecules around the plate once again so why not hang in there with Josh to see if he can replicate that fabulous first AB?

Well, it’s Saturday and that could well be pizza time! Perhaps I could persuade Madame CiF to slap together some cheese, sausage, mushrooms and green peppers and spread them over a nice crusty oreganoed tomatoed disc. I’ll volunteer to make a crunchy green salad with tomatoes and onions. Hmmm, I’m drooling already. If only I could find a couple of those apple-cinnamon thingies from Wisconsin!

    Rah Cardinals!

No I think Baez is better off for his development at this point to struggle in the majors rather than spending more time in AAA. It isn’t a problem if he struggles as the team isn’t making the playoffs.

Mautz was good as a starter in AA but had trouble with the more advanced hitters in AAA. If he becomes proficient as a reliever over a couple seasons, I could see him returning to a starter role similar to Leahy’s path. There are other names coming along, with fancier stuff, but also some health risk.

Wow a two base error by Baez here in the 4th. It rolled under his glove and behind him, but not very far. He didn’t hustle after it though, which cost the extra base. Not sure what he was thinking, or not thinking. You can’t just mosey after a live ball out there.

Yeah, he looked across the board bad.

I know Leahy is on a pitch count, but 3 IP, 50 pitches doesn’t really work for a starter. Its pretty much another pen game. Mautz got hit around pretty good. The crack top ranked system has its work cut out coming up with a pitching staff next year. That will be year two of the rebuild. A lot of people were thinking a couple years until we are competitive again, so they better get cracking.

We are not even through year one yet and some impatient fans are already expecting a miracle turnaround.

I also don’t think any of the people who have a say said “a couple of years,” where “couple” means two. Reasonable people are thinking 2028 at the earliest.

I’m guessing Yadier probably doesn’t come around to score from 1B on a 2 out double…

Pirates think the World Cup is still up for grabs.

Haha…Daisy and butterfly patterned oven mitts all around the horn and in the OF!

I can’t readily recall an inning containing as many circus clowns as that one. I’m somewhat expecting to see a bear dressed up in a clown hat and bow tie to ride a unicycle across the OF.

Bucs boot three in a row, looking like our old guys softball team. Unfortunately they had the best batter in perhaps all of baseball to bail them out in Gorman, who actually hit the ball on 0 and 2 but a shallow pop up. Baez followed suit and we get only one out of it.

I’ve seen guys on softball teams catch that same lazy flyball in CF while holding a can of beer with a cigarette dangling from their mouth.

A third of our lineup is hitting below the Mendoza line. Crooks, Baez and Gorman. 4 are .240ish. Wetherholt, Herrera, Church, Fermin. And 2 can hit. Burleson and Walker. That’s good for .500 I guess. Like Rat says, we need hitters.

You got that right bling. We don’t hardly have anybody that can hit.

And the Pirates win this one 6-2.

Cubs up on the Reds 17-5 in the 9th.

Doyers lost to Detroit today. 2-1 Tigers your final at Tiger Stadium.

    We got 3 measly hits.

Well, despite the very best effort of the Pirates to give us that game, we steadfastly refused to take it.

Three hits won’t feed the bulldog. Let’s see if we can quadruple that total on the morrow.

Man, I recall a trip my buddy’s dad set up for me and my good friend back in ‘72 when we were teenagers. We saw the Pirates and Phillies – three games each. The Pirates were fearsome then; defending champs. And they had some former Cards who were key members of their club including Dave Guisti and Nellie Briles.

I believe the Bucs won two of three, and then the Phillies behind Steve Carlton shut us out.

Great times, but not for the Cardinals.

Those White Sox continue with a 4 game grip on 1st place in the ALC which is pretty good for a team that lost a combined 324 games in it’s prior 3 seasons.
