seems like it might be a tight zone tonight. hard to say yet since peralta has been well off but a couple have been right there.

Back to back Ks end the inning…but that was a lot of pitches on Peralta’s arm. Hopefully that will pay dividends in the coming innings.

22 year old Dominican right hander Freddy Peralta dealing for Milwaukee this evening. Was originally signed by Seattle back in 2013 as an IFA ( thats “International Free Agent” to the layman). Freddy registered a 1.14 WHIP with 6 wins vs 4 setbacks last year in his rookie campaign with the Crew. He averaged 9.5 K’s……but also 4.5 walks per 9 innings. We will see a ton of fast balls tonight from this young man……Carp now strolling plateward and it’s time to play a little baseball.

Carp – Walks on 5 Peralta offerings.

Goldy- Launches one deep to left!!!…Braun looks up and it’s out of here!! 2 run Goldschmidt bomb and just like that the Birds seize a 2-0 lead! Goldy also made the kid lob 10 pitches before he took him deep to boot.

DeJong- Grazed in the midsection by a Peralta fast one, but Paul looks none the worse for the experience as he trots on down to 1st base.

Ozuna- Taps one right back to Peralta who fires it to 2nd for one and the throw to 1st is a mile wide right, but Marcell will have to stay put as Grandal was backing it up.

Yadi- Rifles a gapper to left center that Yelich won’t have a prayer for as it one hops the wall!….Braun grabs it and fires it back in but not in time to prevent the sliding Ozuna from making this a 3-0 Cardinal ballgame!

Dexter- Works a free pass and Peralta’ s life expectancy in this game should not be a long one, as he’s now up to 29 pitches…..and counting. Still only 1 out.

    Wong- Strikes out swinging.

Bader- Sure would be nice to get Flaherty up to the dish this inning, but that’s not going to happen as Harrison watches a hittable pitch sail right on down Broadway without offering to lay a little lumber on it, but not a bad start as the good guys plate 3 here in the opening frame.

i don’t know what bader is doing. you should never get caught looking on a two strike fastball. if the pitcher throws a great changeup or curveball, you tip your hat but a fastball right down the middle, no. its why i don’t agree with how they teach hitters to bat anymore especially with two strikes. they want you to try to guess or go by pitcher trends. sorry that’s not good. look fastball, throttle down but great inning regardless.

Looking forward to seeing Flaherty hone his craft this year. If he’s able to cut down on the homers allowed and work ahead in the count, he could have a special campaign.

Yelich gave that one a ride…just didn’t quite carry. Luckily it was in a deep part of the park and it was just a long out.

A seeing eye single just sneaks by Dejong to extend the inning. Another lefty up for the Brew Crew.

Geesh…..the baseball IQ of this Miller Park attendance tonight must be about 23. They scream like heck on routine fly balls thinking they are 10 rows back in the bleachers and go into an absolute frenzy on one hit to the track. If they hit a homer tonight they just may lose about 10 fans due to heart failure.

The shift eats up a Shaw smack, ending the inning. 3-0 after 1.

not a bad inning for Flaherty. would like to see him throw less pitches so he can start going deeper than he did last year. right now hes on pace for 5.

Geez, Goldy is making good contact here. He smoked that one, albeit foul. The next one just about hits him. The next one is crushed past Shaw for a single.

that should be an error not a hit.

Flaherty – Sails a fly to right that will not pose any difficulties for Mr. Yelich, as he snatches it out of thin air for out #1 here in the Redbird 2nd.

Carp – Grounds one with authority down the line at 1st base, but that’s exactly where Aguilar had him played as he gloves it and trots on over to the bag for the out.

Goldy – Drills one a mile, but we’ll foul to left and this kid is not fooling Goldy one iota. Blisters a one hopper down 3rd that nearly decapitates the upper part of Travis’ glove, as the ball bounces away with Goldy ending up at 1st with his second hit in as many innings.

DeJong – Flys out to Cain in center.

Nice little sneaky double to lead off for Ozuna. Yadi hits a squibber that Moustakas snares and makes a nice throw on.

Fowler draws a walk…but Wong hits a pop up and loses a nice opportunity. Up to Bader now…

Ozuna – Grounds one past the outstretched glove of Shaw at 3rd and down the line!….and Marcell will jog into 2nd with a leadoff double. We definitely need to put the Brewers in their place and tack on a couple more runs here.

Yadi – Grounds it up the middle where it’s smothered by a diving Moustakas….who from his knees lollygags it over to Aguilar at 1st to nail the lumbering Yadi for the out….that’s an infield hit for anyone else in MLB. Marcell takes up new residence at 3rd.

Dexter – Walks…..2-2 in the free pass department for Dexter this evening…..as they say “if you can’t hit…..work the walk”.

Wong – Pops it up on the first pitch in foul territory where Shaw will gather it in for out #2.

    Bader – Whiffs.

I don’t think bader went but he shouldn’t have been even thinking of swinging at that pitch.
