The St. Louis Cardinals announced following today’s game (Saturday, March 18) that non-roster infielder Jeremy Rivas has been re-assigned to minor league camp.
Today’s transaction leaves 46 players remaining on the Spring Training camp roster, including 13 non-roster invitees.

With the return of starting shortstop Tommy Edman from the World Baseball Classic and strong play of prospect shortstop Masyn Winn, the St. Louis Cardinals are well enough stocked at the position that Rivas can move to minor league camp and play every day.
Rivas, 20, was the last Class-A player remaining in big league camp. The Venezuelan often appeared late in games, with 13 plate appearances in 15 games. He had three hits including a double, a walk and five strikeouts. The right-handed hitter’s slash line was .250/.308/.333/.641.
In the upcoming regular season, Rivas, The Cardinal Nation’s 38th-ranked prospect, should be a starter at High-A Peoria.
