Nagowski? Really? I like his OBP but that is about it. Is he some kind of defensive whiz? I thought maybe at least he batted LH but is a RH bat like Voit. I realize the Cards might have been forced to send a 1B but still.
I assume this means we signed him as minor league FA for next year.
I am going to have a harder time this year ranking the 2017 draftees. I think it is because so many unheralded guys are having good seasons (especially pitchers).
That “quite a lineup” turned in some stellar pitching performances.
August 26, 2017 at 9:07 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #31720It is true the Cards have added no one to the big league roster from outside the organization this year.
Someone has been stupidly good – Ramon Santos at PB. But Gomber has been as well. They each may have one start left this month.
It would be a stretch to call Knizer or Pinder potential big bats at this point
August 25, 2017 at 7:53 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #31629Whether Santana or Hosmer, what would you do with Carpenter if you signed one of them?
For those of you that favor signing Hosmer, what would be your plan for Carpenter?
Is Wacha who you think it will be or who you want it to be?
I think if Alcantra is actually being groomed for the pen this season, he should be in Memphis within a couple of days.
Some other strong possibilities I forgot.
Wainwright
Flaherty
LyonsOf course we can debate how successful Duke’s return has been.
Sounds like the recycling of some not so successful managers.
Maybe, but i would say Voit emerged this year and the Cardinals have shown they really dont want a 1B only guy on the bench.
You could also add Piscotty, Gyrko and Martinez as being ahead of him as well.
He may want to return to where he had success (Memphis) or he may want to look for more opportunity.
I’d say ML free agents re-signing with the same team is the exception.
Alcantra now on in relief. Preparing him for a bullpen role in STL?
I dont see Ravello as even staying in the org. Unless put on what is an already crowded 40 man roster he will be a minor league FA. With Voit and Carpenter ahead of him not sure why he would come back as a minor league FA.
Not trying to be contentious but a guy might be an everyday starter for 20 games and not cut it. Is he considered a starter? Is a guy that sees 10 games in the bigs as a bench player never to be heard from again considered to have made it as a bench player?
If it is up to me, I non tender him. If he wants to sign for 3/9 with incentives for games finished I’d talk.
Define “starter” and “bench”. How long does a player have to be in that situation to count?
I read the post above without noting who posted it. When I got to Voit as ” starter” I already knew. Lol
Scott Hurst is 11-12 starting with his last two AB’s on 8/18. That has raised his BA about 40 points in 4 days.
No 40 man spots but my guess is Rosenthal could go on the 60 day DL anytime they needed a spot.

1. If Oquendo is that sensative as to get upset over one disagreement in philosophy, maybe he is not the man some think he is.
2. I never thought Oquendo was a particularly good decision maker as a 3rd base coach.
Maybe because Josh Lucas isnt on the 40 man roster?
As crazy as it sounds, I hope they bring up Wick. Let him earn or lose is 40 man roster spot.
I have supported Helsley as much as anyone here. But to be fair, you cant ignore the ages of Fernandez and Hicks compared to Helsley.
