PCA was a prep first-rounder ranked 4th or 5th in the Mets system when traded in 2021. He wasn’t on the National Top 100 until later. He had suffered a shoulder injury before the trade which is why he was available.
I cannot believe that owners actually think that fans are so stupid that they would believe the owners want a salary cap for them, the fans. When have the owners ever placed the fan ahead of their profits?
It is too bad that Meyer has to clarify this like Captain Obvious, but it is apparently necessary.
Owners don't want a salary cap because they believe it's good for the fans, says @MLBPA Interim Executive Director Bruce Meyer.

P.S. As I see it, the owners have every right to try to maximize their profits, just as the players have every right to fight for their side.

Speaking of Ragsdale…
Though the #stlcards High-A Peoria Chiefs have no Midwest League All-Stars, now-Springfield OF Josiah Ragsdale has been honored for his play with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (MIL) prior to the trade deadline. pic.twitter.com/NpfHfbFHbP

Is their plan to make moves to improve meaningfully next year? If “making moves” means a major payroll increase, I doubt it.
Does it take more gumption to stick to their plan to develop from within or consider shortcuts to try to compete sooner than expected?
Wednesday’s moves:
Activated rookie 2B/SS JJ Wetherholt from the 10-Day Injured List … Wetherholt missed 15 games since Aug. 30 with right wrist tendinitis.
Designated 2B/3B Ramón Urías for assignment.
Reinstated RHP Peter Strzelecki from the 15-Day Injured List and designated him for assignment.
2021 Induction Ceremony with Tudor, Herr and Hernandez.
Our podcast starts with a Springfield playoff preview and look ahead to Memphis. Players include Fajardo, Doyle, Clarke, Baez, Rodriguez, Gurevitch, Molina, Levenson. The #stlcards’ eight AFL players are profiled, including Clarke, Roby, Peete, Hernandez. https://t.co/JtLrcJaKct pic.twitter.com/vgpagCqCX6

Maybe they will earn it down the road, like Yadi and Waino did.
September 15, 2026 at 9:36 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #152 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 15 vs. San Francisco Giants #318991Chip just said that Winquest struck out six in 1 2/3 innings!
Baez just hit a walkoff home run for Springfield!
Though he was throwing to hitters before that, Clarke’s first official outing was in the FCL on July 11. That was a full two months before his Springfield debut, which was his 10th mound appearance of the season. When did he throw 102? On July 11 or September 11? I only heard about the latter.
Yes, Ortiz was placed on the IL today.
I get it bling, but there are examples of successes, too. A quick Google search indicates that Lucas Giolito, Max Fried and Dylan Cease are among current successful MLB pitchers who had TJS as a teen.
I saw mention of another study that indicated that 57% of TJ surgeries are to teenagers with it trending younger over time. That seems logical as players specialize and push harder at younger ages.
All this says to me that there is a higher risk with Clarke, but we shouldn’t assume anything about his future, either.
The 2026 Arizona Fall League rosters include eight #stlcards players assigned to the Peoria Javelinas, headlined by TCN Top 20 prospects Tai Peete, Brandon Clarke and Tekoah Roby. https://t.co/RPL4qfhM6u pic.twitter.com/XasgOnHh1N

40% of all pitchers have Tommy John surgery at some point, though I get that being younger could be worse over the long haul. Then again, it wasn’t a surprise when he was acquired.
Only one of these pitchers will be designated as a starter. The other four will work in relief. Typically the bullpen guys throw one inning per week. There are five starters plus 20 relievers on every AFL roster so usage is VERY different from the regular season.
How do we know Clarke was “tearing himself up”? Seems a highly presumptive statement, but maybe someone has something to back it up.
This summer, we don’t know how long Clarke had been ramping up to pitch in games. Did he really throw 100 “immediately”? And was it irresponsible behavior or within the guidelines the staff gave him?
Interestingly, Hernandez and McGee are listed as infielders as the Javelinas have three other catchers on the roster.
Stavinoha was a long time minor leaguer who had 109 RBI in 20 more games played at Triple-A at the age of 29. Baez is just 21 with his 2026 season across A+ and AA.
The #stlcards no. 1 prospect, 19-year-old C Rainiel Rodriguez, is the Texas League batting champion and he received his third league Player of the Week honors as a loaded Springfield team begins the playoffs Tuesday evening. https://t.co/TRx2hOMXXk pic.twitter.com/gtgp3FwAJp

There's a lot of buzz about SS prospect Jesús Báez's 39 home runs, but he also drove in 109 this season. That is the most in the #stlcards system in the 15 years since Nick Stavinoha also plated 109 back in 2011. pic.twitter.com/3I6qOTSH3x
