Whose award are you referencing? The Cardinals organization hasn’t announced their winners yet. They just announced their August monthly winners! 😉
P.S. I found it. Baseball America.
In the second to last week of the 2026 season, the #stlcards lost both home series to the Giants and Nationals. Rookie Quinn Mathews posted a 2.63 ERA in two starts. Our history feature highlights memorable happenings this week in team annals. https://t.co/bBMAHKX3Ap pic.twitter.com/TV8hC3WHoV

jnevel, thanks for clarifying. I didn’t see that.
C27, since Roby hasn’t pitched in any games since his surgery, how would he be ready to throw multiple innings as a starter in the AFL?
Does this speak to the manager or the team’s depth or something else?
Oli Marmol’s managerial record by month since 2023:
March: 7-7 (.500)
April: 49-58 (.458)
May: 60-46 (.566)
June: 51-53 (.490)
July: 45-59 (.433)
August: 50-61 (.450)
September: 44-49 (.473)Overall: 307-333 (.480)

September 19, 2026 at 6:59 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #155 thread – Saturday, Sept. 19 vs. Washington Nationals #319238Folks may have forgotten that just six months ago, Marmol received a two-year contract extension through 2028 with a 2029 option. He’s not going anywhere.
I’d like to see them get more aggressive in sorting through the keepers and non-keepers of the in-house developed players. I’d like to see them spend more than a bottom 10 team, but that’s easy to say because its not my money. But I also recognize that there are many uncertainties about 2027 for everyone and see that as a potentially overriding concern that will lead to caution, not risk-taking.

To me it seems completely logical that they would want to get better each year.
I doubt anyone disagrees with that general direction. The relevant questions each year, though, are “how much better?” and “how do they achieve it?”.
We are discussing one question, which is if, how and when external signings become part of the plan. As already noted in this thread, there is disagreement about how much they could improve just with the players they already have.
IMO, trades of redundancies to fill gaps are far more likely for 2027, which most feel will be another building year, not a push for contention year. I would assert this even without the threat of a lockout and resulting negative revenue impact from loss of games.
Time missed could also slow the rebuilding plan. As a reminder, during a lockout, management and players are not allowed to be in contact with one another.
Hopefully, we can get clues from the Cardinals at their post-season presser (if they have it). That will be especially important as the Winter Meetings (Dec) and Winter Warm-Up (Jan) will almost certainly be casualties of the lockout.
Personally, what I’d like to see and what I think will happen are not necessarily the same.
P.S. Another short-term gap filling approach could be to sign a May-type who could be flipped at the deadline if not in contention or be kept if they have decent post-season chances. Perhaps this is the kind of signing you were mentioning. Of course, it would be a continuation of their approach in 2026, maybe with a different ending.
The #stlcards system was 1-0 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis CF Chase Davis, singled, doubled, walked and drove in three. Other standouts: Brandt Thompson and Jimmy Crooks. https://t.co/f7qMwvc1jK pic.twitter.com/sUnfr4s7Fb

To our earlier discussion, Dr. James Andrews is very concerned about the increase of TJS in youths. He made a very interesting comment that the TJS ligament does not mature until age 26 and 80 mph is the max before risk of damage.
So, basically every pitcher’s throwing arm is a surgery waiting to happen.
https://twitter.com/hgomez27/status/2101070558821769645
P.S. I wish I could interview him. I would ask if the leg ligament used in the replacement is more mature than the elbow one that went out.
From what I’ve read, the chance of a later needing a second TJS is from between 5% and 15%. There was a furor several years ago in Texas when some HS kids were electing for TJS before it was needed. Since is it almost inevitable, get it out of the way early, went the thinking.
It can be a challenge for me sometimes to distinguish between what posters WANT the Cardinals to do versus what they think the team actually WILL do. 99% of the time, it seems, the former is more aggressive than the latter turns out to be.
The only potential downside in dreaming bigger is disappointment later on if it doesn’t play out.
P.S. I suspect that Bling’s most recent post will be the Cardinals’ game plan for 2027. Best case might be enough improvement by August 1 to be a mild buyer at the deadline instead of a seller as in recent years. If not, keep the target as 2028 and beyond. Some will grow increasingly impatient if the latter is what happens.
As discussed elsewhere, it will be worse if they require the usual 40-man additions prior to the Rule 5 Draft. There is a feeling/hope this will be canceled because of the impending lockout.
Here on the 18th, the Cardinals finally got around to naming their August winners – Rodriguez and Doyle. The latter had a higher ERA and lower K rate than our winner, Winquest.
Doyle, Rodriguez named August St. Louis Minors Pitcher and Player of the Month
September 18, 2026 at 3:47 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #154 thread – Friday, Sept. 18 vs. Washington Nationals #319159FWIW, the starters I post on these threads come directly from Cardinals Media Relations. That doesn’t mean they couldn’t change, however.
If I get new info, such as the Nats starter tonight, I update the first post.
We’ve seen Hjerpe paired with Leahy enough that it is a good assumption it will continue tonight. Which one throws more innings depends on which version of Hjerpe shows up.
No is the correct answer. The entire 40-man is out.

The Cardinals need to go 6-3 to finish at .500.
With the playoffs just four days away, the Memphis offense is gearing up with 25 runs in their last two games. Over his last five starts, #stlcards LHP prospect Mason Molina has an ERA of 0.35 and 33 Ks in 25 2/3 innings. https://t.co/tYZCRkFx1t pic.twitter.com/9Nt5NcSVNo

The #stlcards system was 2-0 on Thursday. TCN’s Players of the Day, Springfield, swept Tulsa in Texas League North Division Series. Tai Peete, Cade McGee & Jesús Báez homered. Doyle’s first inning: Three walks, three strikeouts, 31 pitches. Hit 100 mph more than once but several pitches were very high.
Yes, I think there are different views of what is included in revenue. Further, I don’t think ownership is willing to open their books to ensure compliance. When there is so much money involved, there has be more rigor than “trust me”.
Into enemy territory. Liam Doyle takes the ball with a Championship berth on the line. Game two in Tulsa TONIGHT.
