    Winn is not very good with the bat. He fortunately provides so much value with the glove that he is an overall average or above player. The problem is, the Cardinals have a lot of players right now that are deficient in one or two phases of the game. It doesn’t leave a lot of room for error. Hopefully Masyn can have an Andrelton Simmons sort of career where he mixes some above average batting in with elite defense. It’s still possible.

    IMO, unless his offense picks up over the next couple seasons, the org will be looking to replace him once he starts getting expensive. Certainly, that would have been the case under the old regime, but I see it as more ownership’s prerogative than management’s.

    Another point to consider. Second basemen are easier to find and they already have a ready-made SS replacement under a long term contract.
