. @kyler416 and I cover news from the #stlcards system. Topics include new Angels ownership, Sgf’s name change, injuries to Winn, JJ and others, roster expansion, 3B future with Baez and Ortiz, an FCL all-star & TCN Player of the Month Rainiel Rodriguez. https://t.co/EbiUJx3MmU pic.twitter.com/BQNXrLLem8

This could be a fly in the ointment for Mo. I wonder if Stanley wants to distance himself from anything that reminds him of StL?
Valuation reportedly $4 billion.
Arte Moreno has agreed to sell the Los Angeles Angels to Stan Kroenke, ending Moreno’s longtime ownership of the MLB franchise.
The move adds to Kroenke’s large portfolio of sports teams, including the Los Angeles Rams.

You probably know about the #stlcards player moves today, but for details on eight downstream transactions in the system, including with our nos. 19, 24 and 33 prospects, check out my new article at The Cardinal Nation. https://t.co/YLHOOqyXJR pic.twitter.com/xSZnW47sAS

I guess relatively inexpensive stopgaps COULD become impactful. But they aren’t going to spend the money for 2027 to sign anyone who is SURE to be impactful.

If by losing you can still be making progress? I believe I can subscribe to that. I’m not sure that’s true in this case either, but I can see the possibilities.
Doesn’t losing less often matter? Most would probably agree that the organization overall is in a better place now than they were 12 months ago. There is a lot more to making progress than just counting wins.
As rosters expand from 26 to 28, the #stlcards added three players from Triple-A and sent another down. Pitcher Hancel Rincon and catcher Leonardo Bernal will be making their MLB debuts. (free) https://t.co/NvEK5bW6AO pic.twitter.com/KU760mqa2k

In their final road series of the season, the #stlcards📷 Class-A Palm Beach lost four of six at Dunedin. IF Sebastian Dos Santos batted .333 on five hits, including two doubles, a homer, and six RBIs. https://t.co/dfMSMFHjeD pic.twitter.com/TDJ4rwj6tP

As I hinted on Sunday:
Maybe Crooks will go down and Scott comes back.
Couldn’t preannounce.
CIF, I agree with you that “success” may be too strong, but don’t you see progress?
Signing three impactful free agents would only be an option if BDW wants to substantially increase payroll for a 2027 season that no one knows how many games will be played, in the midst over a battle with the Players Union over money, while coming off another down year in attendance (and surely revenue).
It can’t be called “impossible” until it doesn’t happen, but even putting it out there right now seems overly optimistic. (Sorry to rain on the thought, but it doesn’t seem realistic to me.)
It all depends on your expectations coming in. They may not be the same as the organization.
In 2025, the Cards had a .481 winning percentage. After shedding their three highest paid players for 2026, they have a .493 win pct currently, along with a much better farm system.
I don’t know how that couldn’t be considered progress, though the use of the word “success” suggests the work is done, which it is clearly not. The pace is not fast enough for some, it appears.
For Mendoza to get a chance, it would take another IL move on the StL infield. That seemed highly unlikely a week ago, before the rash of injuries. It would also require that none of the three currently shelved (Winn, JJ and Jordan) would be ready to come back before the season ends.
A week ago, I said it was very, very low odds. Now, his chances are improved, but it still depends on others.
If you had any doubt that Rainiel Rodriguez was the top hitter in the #stlcards system in August, take a look at his stats in this free article! The Cardinal Nation has already honored the 19-year-old four times in his just over two years as a pro. https://t.co/PrMg3giloE pic.twitter.com/xBcHh2RjaE

A reminder that the Class-A season ends in six days. That means no more Palm Beach or Peoria rehabs very soon. Especially after Roby missing this much time, it would be very unusual to drop him right into Triple-A action without a lower level tune-up first. Not impossible, but not likely, either, as I see it.
August 31, 2026 at 11:22 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2024-2026 #317699My guess is that any moves heading into 2027 will be trades and relatively inexpensive veterans on one-year contracts. I don’t think their full financial appetite will return in the next six months.

Seems optimistic that Roby could be ready for the AFL since it is already 9/1 and he hasn’t even pitched in rehab games yet.
I doubt they would send a valuable arm like Franklin, who as you noted has thrown a lot of innings (relatively) already, but that is just my feeling.
The Angels have a president (Molly Jolly), who was promoted into the job this April. She started with running the business side, but took on more. She hired Mo and he reports to her. His contract runs through December. Moreno could restructure and have two presidents, like the Cardinals, but that would mean Jolly would give up half her job and Mo would become her peer. Or Mo could stay on in an advisory role.
Their plan is to have the new GM in place by the end of the regular season but they apparently have not yet interviewed any candidates.
My speculation: We all know how tight-lipped Mo is. The chances of him hinting anything about Flores (or any other candidate) is almost zero. Because of their relationship and Flores’ background, it is “low hanging fruit” for him to be labeled the frontrunner. The reality is that no one seems to know any of the real candidates yet.
The injury bug has hold of the #stlcards, losers of four of six last week. Quinn Mathews’ fourth MLB start was his best yet, with 5 2/3 IP of one-run ball with 7 Ks vs. Pittsburgh. Our history feature recaps past results between the Cardinals and Orioles. https://t.co/tcSdR2JrGN pic.twitter.com/XUbbiAHvhH

Yes, Hjerpe pitched in the 2023 AFL.
As a point for everyone, all awards and special assignments like the AFL are documented on each Player Page here at TCN. You can access them via Team Rosters menu.
jlshetler asked:
Speaking of whom, is there any way chance Rajcic gets activated this year?
No. Tommy John.
Ortiz was already on my list, so we should discuss him this week.
Thank you for listening/watching!
KCB, if you are asking about playoff roster eligibility, there are no restrictions. If you mean something else, please clarify.
Two first-time MLB players as the rumored additions to the #stlcards’ roster on Tuesday, September 1 are very different from how roster expansion was handled in recent years. https://t.co/VRbtdT00Ks pic.twitter.com/x6qRCmrf9k

Thank you for the correction.
The #stlcards system was 1-4 on Sunday. TCN’s Player of the Day, Jack Gurevitch, homered as part of a three-hit, two-RBI day as Springfield clinched. Other standouts: Yhoiker Fajardo, Rainiel Rodriguez, Jon Jon Gazdar, Sammy Hernandez and Dee Kennedy. https://t.co/hCcdolkfGy pic.twitter.com/oxWOIBKfrD
