It will be interesting to see what levels our catching prospects play at next year.
I would guess that Bernal and Pages would be our big league catchers. Herrera would be our dh and spell the others occasionally along with depth for injury.

Memphis ought to play Crooks and Rodriguez. Campos could be at AAA also if there is an injury or they decide to trade Herrera or Crooks.

Springfield will likely have some combination of Campos, Kross and Sammy Hernandez.

Not sure who will be at Peoria or Palm Beach, although it may be necessary to have Hernandez play at Peoria, unless he can play first at Springfield. But Gurevich surely will man first, as he likely isn’t ready for AAA.
I may have forgotten some draftees or others. But this is an exciting list.

And lastly Rojas is an exciting prospect, who put up great numbers in the dsl. He likely beguns in the FCL or Palm Beach.

It will be great when we start ranking these guys, and see how they size up in the view of the posters here.

With the logjam of catchers in the system and the emergence of Bernal with the big club, Crooks has got to go. Take a look around…….there’s really no place for him here. He’s a decent ballplayer and deserves a realistic shot. His trade value is modest at best, but should bring us something of value in return……..probably a much needed bullpen arm. Hopefully the Cardinals will do Jimmy and themselves a favor and trade him.

If nothing else, Crooks has a 40 man slot that might need to be freed up at some point, so that is a motivator to move him. They are probably going to have some non-tenders and I think just one 60IL guy to add, so maybe won’t need the slot early for R5 planning.

i want to see Pages gone. He is good defensively but no bat. you don’t build a championship club with someone like that. He is just using AB’s that we need for others

Everyone is so high on Herrera but he is a catcher that can’t stop a baserunner from stealing. Also I would not like for him to occupy the DH fulll time. That is needed for days off for players who need it.he could play first but Burleson is a core player so no real at bats here.

Too early to give up on Crooks. Trade only if you get an outstanding offer. Catcher with power is a plus. But I think Bernal is the catcher of the future.

I would like to see Rodriguez move to 3b

Herrera’s damage was done in 701 at bats. He has value but needs to play fewer games. Pages simply goes to Memphis with Rainiel and Campos with the latter two DHing some. They will play Rainiel some at the corners and all play regularly.

Bernal and Crooks at the MLB level is optimal if both hit. I believe that Crooks will not only hit, but he has that “it” factor about him. I am shocked about his chase rate. It is so appalling it almost negates him entirely; yet his leadership, fielding, throwing, sweet swing, and clutch power scream winner and team captain.
I think Bernal is the second coming of Ted Simmons. Compare their thighs and switch hitting strokes. Even their right-handed line-drive approaches are similar. We could have the Simmons/Porter problem all over again. I hope we keeo Simmons this time.

I agree that some roster moves will have to be made. Herreras isn’t really a catcher any more, but he can be injury insurance. Crooks just hasn’t hit and strikes out way too much. Pages won’t have any role when Rodriguez reaches the majors. And I don’t know anything about Rodriguez playing third. That is only a rumor so far. But I would say no moves have to be made with the control the FO have on Bernal, Crooks and Pages. Rodriguez will be in the minors for at least most of 2027. That isn’t even including the looming lockout and no Rule 5 draft.

I have to agree with NigelT regarding Crooks. The catching situation will shake out at spring training. If there is trade bait over the winter it should be Herrera….. he would have the highest value.

Why would Crooks be taking up a 40-man spot when Pages still has one, too? If they need to clear a spot, the decision should be clear – and it wouldn’t be Crooks. I don’t understand this priority…
