Seth Lugo has declined his option with the Padres.

Just wondering – does anybody else suspect there are tons of internal problems in San Diego?

I think Severino, Paxton, and Lorenzen should be targets beyond the obvious need of Snell, Yamamoto, Gray. That would give our young pitching prospects like Hence, Graceffo, Hansen and Roby time to develop. The first three I mentioned should not cost a lot in terms of money/years, but have significant upside. Brady Singer could also be a rebound candidate, if the Royals want to trade him.

And Thompson should go into Spring Training with a legit chance for the rotation. He was good in his last starting stint.

Lugo and Clevinger would be good fits as well.

My buddy made a comment to me last night at the girls basketball game. He said no matter who St. Louis trades to get some pitching help those players have the possibility of being really good players. And, once again, making St. Louis look bad with their trades.

I told him I totally agreed.

Agreed there are tons of problems in San Diego just as there are tons of problems in St. Louis. Who will fix their problems first? I don’t know.

Tim Anderson of the White Sox is now a free agent. Option wasn’t picked up.

2023 was bad for him but what about his other years?

Would anyone take a flyer for Wacha? What would it take? 2years $22, plus a vesting option?

Haha!…Wacha’s .620 in 142 games in which he was the pitcher of decision. He’s beyond better than anything the Cardinals have across the entire board.

The thing about Wacha is he does better when he is with somebody else. He probably has figured that out. Especially now with no real coaching staff and catchergate still not really settled. He left and took about a year to get himself straightened back out to how he was to begin with. Good for maybe 25 starts in a season it seems like. The #6 would get some work. Probably #7 too the way things go. But I agree, he would be an upgrade if Mo could make it happen.

Haven’t seen Giolito’s named mentioned much, but no QO, and is not a #1 in my opinion, but he’s one that I could see as a fit for mid rotation upgrade and bounce back candidate. They would still need to go bigger on an actual ace.

We could trade Edman or Donovan, but not both of them.

Possible trades: Edman and Knizner for Cease
    or….Edman and Carlson for Manoah

    O’Neill for Bieber
    or….O’Neill for Glasnow and cash

Sign one of Yamamoto, Snell, Nola.

    Sign Matsui.

Get it all done by November 30.
Take two days off to put up Christmas lights and decorations.

    Sincerely,
    WDWJr.

Under NO circumstance trade Tommy Edman.

@GameCard – I have trouble understanding your infatuation with Tommy Edman.

While I agree, this year he is not going anywhere because he will be opening day SS, you’ve been making these pronouncements for at least two years. What gives?

    I’d welcome a Wacha signing.

LA…My favorite two Cardinals of all time are Stan Musial and Tommy Edman.

Mentioning Stan Musial and Tommy Edman in the same sentence is ridiculous.

I read that as well. They are waiting to see if he gets the Padres job or not.

If Shildt or Ross end up in Milwaukee, along with Counsell in Chicago, the NLC will be spicy next year.

How aboot Menoah for O’NJeill? Maybe we throw in a prospect too?

I don’t think the Blue Jays would do that deal. I think it would take O’Neill plus a good prospect. Maybe Hjerpe or Herrera or Scott. Someone around that level to make that work. I’d do O’Neill plus Bedell, but I still doubt that’s enough.

Carlson lines up best but I’m curious why Manoah is a target.

I;m looking for Menoah to have a bounce back year. He was 2nd in Cy Young voting in 2022.

Menoah would be an intersting roll of the dice.
