Someone who likes the ol’ hidden ball trick?
December 21, 2023 at 10:23 pm #240151Yamamoto Dodgers 12/325
December 21, 2023 at 10:51 pm #240152This one has no deferrals. Ohtani did the Dodgers a big favor, at least until 2034.
December 21, 2023 at 11:09 pm #240153If you add the posting fee they have to pay Orix it is $375 million for 12 years

ParticipantThe two LAD signings must really annoy the other NLW FOs. And how about the other teams in the NNW fans feeling the unfairness of it all.
December 23, 2023 at 1:26 pm #240231I don’t really view it as unfair. There are other big market clubs that could have afforded Ohtani and Yamamoto. In fact it is being reported that the Mets matched the Dodgers offer to Yamamoto but he chose LA anyway. Steve Cohen is worth $15B. He could afford every player in Japan all at once. Money was obviously a big factor in Ohtani and Yamamoto’s decisions but not the only factor.

ParticipantRumored Cardinals Target Officially Lands Deal With Padres Ending Possible Pursuit
There have been so many situations where there are headlines like this one. Maybe because the entire baseball world knows what the Cards need to do this off-season so every mlb free agent P and the same with Ps “available for a trade” are rumored to be in Mozeliak’s cross-hairs. Its a bit frustrating that we get so many possible addition stories and then read the following headlines like the one above.
December 24, 2023 at 10:29 am #240271Any title with two wishy-washy words (rumored and possible) should sound a warning that what follows is likely uninformed speculation.
You didn’t mention the source of the headline, but I bet it is a blog, not a major media site. (Same with Rats’ story from MSN. They often republish blog spew, rather than report real news.) One must always consider from who and where the story originates.
Not related, but I was amazed by the number of people on social media who were convinced that because Nootbaar and Yamamoto are friends, that it meant the Cards were front-runners to sign him. Then of course, their self-inflated hopes were dashed when reality finally $et in.
All that means to me is that when Noot finally becomes a free agent, he will sign with the Dodger$.
December 24, 2023 at 10:51 am #240273Just a heads up that this thread will end in a week, with a new one coming for 2024. The board software does not support threads over 100 pages. But the new thread will include a link back to this one.
December 24, 2023 at 1:25 pm #240284To that end, I just saw this…
So which team was Lars Nootbaar recruiting them for??? 😧😧😧 #STLCards pic.twitter.com/mRkDohEdt3

December 25, 2023 at 5:07 am #240318Noot has some exposure to baseball celebrity life in the fast lane. Comparatively, the middle of flyover country could seem like a bleak and dreary backwater.
December 25, 2023 at 3:36 pm #240340Noot for Buehler. Who says no? LOL

jj-cf-stlParticipantSEA Luis Castillo and Matt Brash
for
STL Matz, Hence, Liberatore & Chase Davis52.3 for 52.3 (BTV)
December 31, 2023 at 8:09 am #240557
jj-cf-stlParticipantI don’t know that SEA would allow the return to be spread across four players.
The may consider Matz, Donovan and Hence as a better return, even though we should add 1.5mil (BTV).
December 31, 2023 at 12:22 pm #240568I like the framework of the deal but if Seattle is really desperate to purge salary they might not want Matz in return. I referenced this subject in the Rotation thread.
January 1, 2024 at 6:48 am #240607
jj-cf-stlParticipantIf SEA wants full salary relief and a trade package, I’m out on Castillo. We won’t win that auction, and the roster has bigger needs to address before the budget is full.
I’d like a shiny new stainless .45 as much as the next guy, but without the funds for rounds, it’s just a safe queen, and not functional.
Maybe I’d better just buy some cans of ammo with the available funds, and shoot the old reliables I have.
January 1, 2024 at 6:56 am #240608Goldschmidt asked about extending his contract. Not worrying about it right now.
January 1, 2024 at 7:23 am #240610Please move all discussion to the new 2024 version of this thread. Thank you and Happy New Year!
